This original Vampire anime is about a 12th-century man named Minamoto no Yoshitsune (Kurou). Kurou flees into the mountains after losing to his brother Minamoto no Yoritomo, the first Shogun to rule all of Japan.
History records that he committed suicide, but instead, Kurou meets a strange, beautiful woman named Kuromitsu in her mountain hermitage.
Eventually, Kurou falls in love with Kuromitsu, but then realizes she conceals a dark secret. He learns that he is unable to die and continues to live for a thousand years as Japan evolves into a future society.
As far as story goes of this Vampire anime, I don’t see what the problem was. Quite honestly, I thought the visual novel was redundant when explaining the differences between a Dead Apostle and a True Ancestor. In the anime, it goes straight to the point and makes easy on the viewers.
Dead Apostle is a human turned vampire. True Ancestor is a transcendent race, vampires yes but were never human to begin with. While the plot is still much deeper and complex in the visual novel, don’t really undermine the anime’s version of it.
If you are a huge Tsukihime buff and want to know EVERYTHING about Tsukihime, then you won’t like the anime. But if you just want to get in and enjoy a decent anime then won’t bore you to death with details, then watch the anime.
Whether it is investigating stone shrines, tracking rumors, or simply playing hide and seek, Koyomi Araragi is always there to fulfill the requests of his friends from both the human and supernatural worlds.
Koyomimonogatari tells a series of short stories in this Vampire anime that involving Koyomi as he helps each of the girls in his cohort solve a mystery or kill some time, alongside previously unexplored problems in this essential prelude to his story’s last chapter.
29. Devil’s Line
In this Vampire anime, Vampires walk among society, existing as part of its underbelly. They do not require blood to survive, but extreme emotions can immensely increase their bloodlust, turning them into uncontrollable monsters.
Tsukasa Taira, a 22-year-old university student, learns of the existence of vampires when her longtime friend reveals himself to be one of them after a tense confrontation with Yuuki Anzai—a human and vampire hybrid.
Her friend is arrested, and Tsukasa soon finds herself drawn to Anzai, who reluctantly reciprocates her feelings. However, this unconventional romance may prove too difficult to maintain, as Anzai struggles to contain the part of him that wishes to devour Tsukasa.
This Vampire anime is about Erik Brooks was half-man, half-vampire after his mother Carol was attacked by a vampire named Deacon Frost. He sought assistance from Noah Van Helsing and over time, vampires worldwide fear him as the “Daywalker” or “Blade”.
He investigates a vampire organization in Asia called “Existence” starting from Japan all the way to Southeast Asia.
The show was part of Marvel’s “Marvel Anime” project, a set of four anime shows set in Southeast Asia and based on Marvel properties, including X-Men, Wolverine and Ironman.
27. Tsukuyomi: Moon Phase
This Vampire anime is about a magazine photographer Kohei Morioka, is on an assignment in Germany. When Kohei enters a dark German castle, he encounters a young vampire girl named Hazuki.
Hazuki tried to turn Kohei into her own servant. But Kohei didn’t succumb to Hazuki’s will. He does however, set her free from the barrier that’s keeping her within the castle’s territory.
On his way back to Japan, Kohei was surprised to see the same young vampire girl living in the same country as he is.
The story of this Vampire anime revolves around a 16-year-old boy named Marihu Shirts who likes simple things and dislikes difficult things.
One day,he picks up a stray black cat he find in the middle of the road and named it Kuro.
From this moment on,a contract between the Servamp Sleepy Ash(Kuro) and Mahiru is formed, and Mahiru is pulled into a servamp war between the seven deadly servamp and their eight sibling Tsubaki.
25. Tonari no Kyuuketsuki-san
This modern-day Vampire anime centers on high school girl Amano, who was saved from a strange incident by a vampire girl named Sophie Twilight, and has been interested in her ever since.
Akari arrives at her house uninvited and the two start to live together.
Although a vampire, Sophie never attacks humans, but purchases blood and anime goods via mail and lives a modern life.
24. Fortune Arterial
Fortune Arterial’s story of this Vampire anime revolves around the male protagonist Kohei Hasekura, who transfers into a prestigious public school in the style of an English six-year school encompassing junior-high and high school students.
The school is on an island named Tamatsu Island off-shore from mainland Japan, and the only way to get there is by boat.
Soon after transferring, he discovers that one of the student in the class next door to his, Sendo Erika, is in fact a type of vampire.
When Lisa Tepes, beloved wife of Vlad Tepes AKA Dracula is acused of witchcraft and burned at the stake by an overzealous bishop, Dracula declares war on the people of Wallachia and unleashes an army of murderous demonic creatures from hell.
Luckily, Trevor Belmont, last survivor of the Belmont clan, a disgraced family known for hunting all kinds of monsters, is still in town and agrees to take the fight to the lord of vampires.
Since you are most probably a returning customer to the Blood franchise, you are already familiar with the story. Sword-wielding mystery girl in a high school uniform fights man-eating monsters. Mystery is solved in a gory, splattery, bloody, dismembering, brain-bits-flying, bone-cracking way.
Blood-c has no continuity with the previous anime of the franchise. It takes the basic story and spins a different tale. So, if you, like me, were expecting more Haji—gawd, there can never be enough Haji!—you will be sorely disappointed. Sigh~ (Allow me a moment to once again overcome my disappointment in this crucial omission)
So, is this a good story?
In a word, yes. But that becomes apparent only when you finish it. Once again, the first few episodes are trolling you in a very horrible way. This would have been acceptable in a 24 episode show but in a 12 episode show it did irreparable damage. So, it requires a certain masochism to get you through to the good part.
21. Kizumonogatari I: Tekketsu-Hen
Given that it is unfair to do a review of this Vampire anime story since this is 1 / 3 of then light novel adaptation, I will say that the first quarter was meticulously executed to perfection.
Inner monologues as well as narrations are absent on this adaptation and are substituted by visuals and symbolism that do it instead meant to challenge the perception of the audience. It compliments the dialogues and storyline presented on this first adaptation.
I always wondered how would SHAFT open Kizumonogatari as the novel opens up to the readers as a flashback of Araragi Koyomi as he has a memory he has kept out of prying eyes and deemed the occasion fit for him to talk about the Hot Blooded, Iron Blooded yet Cold Blooded Vampire.
20. Noblesse: Awakening
The story of this Vampire anime surrounding vampires is nothing new, yet the fact that it incorporates both Frankenstein and his master, Cadis Etrama di Raizel, is something I have yet to see in the medium itself.
What is actually intriguing is the fact that the “master” awakens in modern society, so there are naturally futuristic things he quite doesn’t understand, which creates some very amusing situations.
It also includes a good amount of well executed action, which came as surprise. For the matter, it is only 30 minutes long, so it isn’t able to represent the scope of Noblesse, and thus is quite condensed, yet this serves to transmit well paced action sequences.
However, this also means that there are a lot of things introduced that aren’t explained to the viewer, which was to be expected.
19. Rosario + Vampire
The Vampire anime is considered pretty episodic (ie. standalone episodes) with a few exceptions near the end of the series. This goes parallel with its manga originals so it is nothing new to the readers.
However, what is new is the extremely formulaic sequence in all episodes with an introduction to the "monster of the episode" (these monsters tend to get defeated and then become friends with the protagonists).
Not only that, but the actual story coverage is also very minimal in the anime (only covered up to chapter 10 of the manga out of 40 chapters). But that is not to say it is all bad.
In fact, certain portions of the story that were remade into anime were better planned (events flow smoother/made more logical sense) than the manga version. Overall, the story serve its purpose as an introduction to the Rosario + Vampire series.
18. Kekkai Sensen
This Vampire anime story opens in Hellsalem’s Lot, formerly New York formerly New Amsterdam. The old New York city was destroyed by a portal opening to another world and this one didn’t even have the good grace to have a giant squid monster.
In this city, humans co-exist with all manner of strange otherworldly beings. In this city, there’s a shadowy organisation called Libra dedicated to keeping the piece.
Our protagonist, Leonardo Watch, encounters Libra through an odd coincidence and is given a position due to his mysterious “All-seeing eyes” Which are so strong that he doesn’t even have to open his eyelids to see, apparently.
17. Vampire Princess Miyu
Evil Shinma (shape-shifting monsters and Vampire anime) roam the Earth on a mission to unleash their darkness upon the Human race. Miyu Royal Princess from the dark is the Chosen One—the one being who must banish the Evil Shinma from the Earth.
She has the power to offer Humans the gift of eternal happiness, yet is herself, trapped between two worlds; destined for perpetual solitude and internal conflict. Miyu’s only companion is Larva, once an evil Shimna; now her devoted guardian.
Together they share a dark journey through the weakness of the human heart and the tragic loss of innocence. Cut off from humanity by the knowledge of what she is, Miyu lives an endless quest as both the hunter and the hunted, on the edge of darkness.
16. Demi-Chan Wa Kataritai
This Vampire anime story begins in the age where ‘demi-humans’ which is humans with some sort of special power have been accepted into mondern civilication.
The story of Vampire anime follows as he trys to ‘interview’ these demi-humans and learn more about them but with alot of failure on his end and comedy at its finest on the other end.
15. Sirius the Jaeger
This Vampire anime starts with Imperial Capital, 1930. A strange group of people carrying musical instrument cases landed on Tokyo station. They are called the “Jaegers”, who came to hunt vampires.
Amongst them, there stood a young man with striking serenity and unusual aura. His name is Yuliy, a werewolf whose home village was destroyed by vampires.
Yuliy and the Jaegers engage in deadly battle over a mysterious holy arc only known as “The Arc of Sirius”. What truth awaits them at the end…?
14. Vampire Knight
Vampire Knight tells the story of this Vampire anime which include Yuki Cross. The earliest thing she remembers is being attacked on a snowy night by a vampire, and being rescued by Kaname Kuran, who is also a vampire. The story of this Vampire anime takes place 10 years after that event, Yuki is now the adopted daughter of the Headmaster of Cross Academy.
She and her longtime friend Zero Kiryu keep peace at the academy, making sure no problems arise between the Day Class (humans) and the Night Class (vampires). However, the peace they try to keep is fragile, and personal feelings begin to interrupt their duty.
It’s based on the manga by Matsuri Hino, which is excellent. If VK is half as good as the manga, it’ll be a great anime. (as I write this it has yet to air) There is some action, but expect more romance from VK.
This Vampire anime is about supernatural beings that feed on the life essence of the unsuspecting at night—have been around for centuries. However, high schooler Karin Maaka is unusual, even among her own kind.
Unlike her vampire family, ever since she was a child, Karin has suffered from polycythemia: a rare disorder which causes her to periodically produce excessive amounts of blood. And the more blood she produces, the more anemic and lightheaded she gets, ultimately leading to frequent nosebleeds.
Her only solution? Force her excess blood onto random strangers, which surprisingly causes these “victims” to become livelier and happier than before.
With her siblings—Anju, her reserved yet affectionate younger sister, and Ren, her womanizing elder brother—helping her abilities remain a secret by altering the affected humans’ memories, no one is the wiser.
That is, until Karin’s newly transferred classmate, Kenta Usui, finds her behavior suspicious. And to make matters even more complicated, Karin feels her blood reacting unusually to Kenta’s presence.
12. Blood Lad
Blood Lad follows Staz, a vampire from the Demon World who avoids is an otaku for human goods – especially manga and This Vampire anime.
The accidental arrival of Fuyumi Yanagi, who wandered into the Demon World through a portal, changes his life.
Whilst he fights a territory rival she is eaten by a carnivorous plant. Staz pledges to help bring her back to life.
11. Dance in the Vampire Bund
This Vampire anime is about Vampire queen Mina Tepesh comes out of hiding to offer peace between vampires and humans. Japan gives her a bund, where she goes to live with her people. However, extremist human and vampire groups do not want to coexist.
To be honest, it’s really surprising to see so many reviews giving Vampire Bund such a low score. For me, it was absolutely the best vampire anime I’ve ever seen. I can’t really say that I’m obsessed with vampires, but it’s certainly an interesting genre.
Unfortunately there isn’t really a lot of animes which use this theme to its fullest. In that sense, Vampire Bund has managed to utilize all the glory of the vampire legend and myth.
10. Strike the Blood
This Vampire anime is about The Fourth Primogenitor-That’s the world’s strongest vampire that should only exist in legends. Accompanied by twelve Kenjuu and spreading calamity, this phantom vampire appeared in Japan.
For the observation and obliteration of this Fourth Primogenitor, the government and Lion King decided to dispatch an attack mage known as a Sword Shaman. However, for some reason, the one chosen for the observation was a apprentice Sword Shaman girl, Himegari Yukina.
Wielding the strongest anti-primogenitor spirit spear, Yukina arrived at Demon District, Itogami City. What is the true identity of the Fourth Primogenitor, Akatsuki Kojou, she encountered over there!?
9. Black Blood Brothers
This Vampire anime is about Remnants of a vampire clan that wanted to rule the world alone, but got defeated in a war by joined forces of other vampires and humans, kidnap the brother of a vampire war veteran. He looks for them in a secret vampire city.
The story of life and death colored by black and red, and the vampires that transcend them begins. You’ll be the witness of the legend of bloody race living in the shadow.
This is an amazing anime series and it’s kind of a spin off of blade if you ask me since the hero has a sword, black blood brothers is full of intense action and full of blood and gore, anyone who likes Japanese anime, vampires, nonstop action, and blood, guts, and gory anime fans will love this.
8. Blood +
The story of this Vampire anime is dark, sad and action-packed. I like how they present everything with a sad setting; it’s not like it’s just one big brawl after another; it is emotions and resolve-strengthening, it’s battles which have a reason other than just being yet another battle.
The story keeps complex but simple enough to follow without too much thinking “what’s happening?”
The animation style in Blood+ is really cool. It’s got good shading details, and the characters looks good too; they’ve got a nice variation of character designs, some detailed and some maybe not so detailed.
The animation is flawless; at least no noticeable errors. The background art in this series is amazing; the sceneries and cityscapes are wonderful to look at.
7. Trinity Blood
The background of this Vampire anime is in the distant future after the destruction brought about by Armageddon. The war between the vampires and the humans continue to persist.
In order to protect the humans from the vampires, Vatican has to rely on other allies to counter the situation. The protagonist, a priest called Peter Abel Nightroad, travels through the countries as a representative for the Vaticans.
However, he is also part of “Ax”, a special operations group controlled by the Cardinal Catherina. His encounter with a young girl called Esther will determine the struggle and survival between the human race and the vampires.
6. Owari No Seraph
This Vampire anime starts in 2012, the world allegedly comes to an end at the hands of a human-made virus, ravaging the global populace and leaving only children untouched. It is at this time that vampires emerge from the recesses of the earth, likely followed by age-old horrors of the dark thought only to be myth.
The vampires sweep the earth and claim it in a single violent stroke, subjugating the remnants of humanity and leading them beneath the surface to safety. This “protection” comes at the price of donating blood to their captors. At the age of twelve, Yuichiro and his friend and fellow orphan Mikaela plotted to escape along with the children in Hyakuya Orphanage.
However, this resulted in their deaths and Mikaela sacrifices himself in order for Yuichiro to escape and be saved by members of the Moon Demon Company, an extermination unit of the Japanese Imperial Demon Army. Four years later, Yuichiro dedicates his life to destroy vampires and seek revenge against them for murdering his “family”.
This Vampire anime is about Sotobamura is a small village with around 1300 residents; so small the village isn’t even connected to a single highway.
An isolated village in which old customs, such as the burial of the dead, are still practiced. One day, the bodies of three people are found dead.
Although Ozaki Toshio, the village’s lone doctor, feels uncertain, he treats the deaths as a normal occurrence. However, in the days following, the villagers start to die one after the other.
4. JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure

This Vampire anime starts many thousand years in the future. Vampires once ruled the night in this Vampire anime but have seen their numbers reduced by fearless bounty hunters. One such hunter is D, the halfbreed son of a human mother and vampire father.
When a girl from a rich family is taken from her home by the vampire Meier Link, her father contracts both D and the Markus brothers (a rival group of hunters) to race to retrieve her.
As the heroes fight their way through Meier’s hired guards, they begin to suspect that the girl may have gone with him willingly.
This Vampire anime follows the adventures of Koyomi Araragi, a former vampire. One day, a classmate named Hitagi Senjougahara, a loner, falls down the stairs into Koyomi’s arms. Hitagi appears to weigh next to nothing, defying physics.
Despite being threatened by her to keep away, Koyomi offers his help, and introduces her to Meme Oshino, a strange middle-aged man living in an abandoned building, who cured him of vampirism.
Koyomi becomes gradually more involved in cases related to unusual supernatural creatures, meeting new people and discovering secrets in the people he thought he knew.
