32 Best Vampire Anime of All Time

Vampire anime has been popular in the community since the classical era, and these series have a range of variety genres, from comedy to bloody gory anime series.

Some vampires have this mystery vibes and some are truly brutal and hunt you down to your dreams to satisfy their thirst of blood.

Sometimes we get to see some passionate vampires who are in love with human beauty and try to live their lives peacefully.

Now enough of these vampires lets talk about some good vampire anime that you can watch right now.

Here are some of the top vampire anime choices to pick from if you like the anime about vampires.

32. Kurozuka

Kurozuka vampire anime

This original Vampire anime is about a 12th-century man named Minamoto no Yoshitsune (Kurou). Kurou flees into the mountains after losing to his brother Minamoto no Yoritomo, the first Shogun to rule all of Japan.

History records that he committed suicide, but instead, Kurou meets a strange, beautiful woman named Kuromitsu in her mountain hermitage.

Eventually, Kurou falls in love with Kuromitsu, but then realizes she is concealing a dark secret. He learns that he is unable to die and continues to live for a thousand years as Japan evolves into a future society.

31. Tsukihime

Tsukihime

As far as story goes of this Vampire anime, I don’t see what the problem was. Quite honestly, I thought the visual novel was redundant when explaining the differences between a Dead Apostle and a True Ancestor. In the anime, it goes straight to the point and makes easy on the viewers.

The Dead Apostle is a human-turned-vampire. True Ancestor is a transcendent race; vampires, yes, but they were never humans to begin with. While the plot is still much deeper and more complex in the visual novel, don’t undermine the anime’s version of it.

If you are a huge Tsukihime buff and want to know EVERYTHING about Tsukihime, then you won’t like the anime. But if you just want to get in and enjoy a decent anime then won’t bore you to death with details, then watch the anime.

30. Koyomimonogatari

Koyomimonogatari

Her friend is arrested, and Tsukasa soon finds herself drawn to Anzai, who reluctantly reciprocates her feelings. However, this unconventional romance may prove too difficult to maintain, as Anzai struggles to contain the part of him that wishes to devour Tsukasa.

Fortune Arterial

Fortune Arterial’s story of this Vampire anime revolves around the male protagonist Kohei Hasekura, who transfers into a prestigious public school in the style of an English six-year school encompassing junior-high and high school students.

Luckily, Trevor Belmont, last survivor of the Belmont clan, a disgraced family known for hunting all kinds of monsters, is still in town and agrees to take the fight to the lord of vampires.

22. Blood-C

Blood-C

Since you are most likely a returning customer of the Blood franchise, you are already familiar with the story. A sword-wielding mystery girl in a high school uniform fights man-eating monsters. The mystery is solved in a gory, splattery, bloody, dismembering, brain-biting, bone-cracking way.

Blood-c has no continuity with the previous anime of the franchise. It takes the basic story and spins a different tale. So, if you, like me, were expecting more Haji—gawd, there can never be enough Haji!—you will be sorely disappointed. Sigh~ (Allow me a moment to once again overcome my disappointment in this crucial omission)
So, is this a good story?

In a word, yes. But that becomes apparent only when you finish it. Once again, the first few episodes are trolling you in a very horrible way. This would have been acceptable in a 24 episode show but in a 12 episode show it did irreparable damage. So, it requires a certain masochism to get you through to the good part.

21. Kizumonogatari I: Tekketsu-Hen

Kizumonogatari I: Tekketsu-Hen

Given that it is unfair to do a review of this Vampire anime story since this is 1 / 3 of then light novel adaptation, I will say that the first quarter was meticulously executed to perfection.

Inner monologues as well as narrations are absent in this adaptation and are substituted by visuals and symbolism that are instead meant to challenge the perception of the audience. It complements the dialogue and storyline presented in this first adaptation.

I always wondered how SHAFT would open Kizumonogatari as the novel opens up to the readers as a flashback of Araragi Koyomi, as he has a memory he has kept out of prying eyes and deemed the occasion fit for him to talk about the Hot Blooded, Iron-Blooded, yet Cold Blooded Vampire.

20. Noblesse: Awakening

Noblesse: Awakening

The story of this Vampire anime surrounding vampires is nothing new, yet the fact that it incorporates both Frankenstein and his master, Cadis Etrama di Raizel, is something I have yet to see in the medium itself.

What is intriguing is the fact that the “master” awakens in modern society, so there are naturally futuristic things he doesn’t understand, which creates some very amusing situations.

It also includes a good amount of well-executed action, which came as a surprise. For the matter, it is only 30 minutes long, so it isn’t able to represent the scope of Noblesse and thus is quite condensed, yet this serves to transmit well-paced action sequences.

However, this also means that there are a lot of things introduced that aren’t explained to the viewer, which was to be expected.

19. Rosario + Vampire

Rosario + Vampire

The Vampire anime is considered pretty episodic (ie. standalone episodes) with a few exceptions near the end of the series. This goes parallel with its manga originals so it is nothing new to the readers.

However, what is new is the extremely formulaic sequence in all episodes with an introduction to the monster of the episode” (these monsters tend to get defeated and then become friends with the protagonists).

Not only that, but the actual story coverage is also very minimal in the anime (only covered up to chapter 10 of the manga out of 40 chapters). But that is not to say it is all bad.

Certain portions of the story that were remade into anime were better planned (events flowed smoothly and made more logical sense) than the manga version. Overall, the story serves its purpose as an introduction to the Rosario + Vampire series.

18. Kekkai Sensen

Kekkai Sensen

This vampire anime story opens in Hellsalem’s Lot, formerly New York, formerly New Amsterdam. The old New York City was destroyed by a portal opening to another world, and this one didn’t even have the good grace to have a giant squid monster.

In this city, humans coexist with all manner of strange otherworldly beings. In this city, there’s a shadowy organization called Libra dedicated to keeping the piece.

Our protagonist, Leonardo Watch, encounters Libra through an odd coincidence and is given a position due to his mysterious “all-seeing eyes,” which are so strong that he doesn’t even have to open his eyelids to see.

16. Demi-Chan Wa Kataritai

Demi-Chan Wa Kataritai

This Vampire anime story begins in the age where ‘demi-humans’ which is humans with some sort of special power have been accepted into mondern civilication.

Yuliy and the Jaegers engage in deadly battle over a mysterious holy arc only known as “The Arc of Sirius”. What truth awaits them at the end…?

14. Vampire Knight

Vampire Knight

Vampire Knight tells the story of this Vampire anime which include Yuki Cross. The earliest thing she remembers is being attacked on a snowy night by a vampire, and being rescued by Kaname Kuran, who is also a vampire. The story of this Vampire anime takes place 10 years after that event, Yuki is now the adopted daughter of the Headmaster of Cross Academy.

She and her longtime friend Zero Kiryu keep peace at the academy, making sure no problems arise between the Day Class (humans) and the Night Class (vampires). However, the peace they try to keep is fragile, and personal feelings begin to interrupt their duty.

It’s based on the manga by Matsuri Hino, which is excellent. If VK is half as good as the manga, it’ll be a great anime. (as I write this it has yet to air) There is some action, but expect more romance from VK.

13. Karin

Karin anime

This vampire anime is about supernatural beings that feed on the life essence of the unsuspecting at night and have been around for centuries. However, high schooler Karin Maaka is unusual, even among her kind.

Unlike her vampire family, ever since she was a child, Karin has suffered from polycythemia: a rare disorder which causes her to periodically produce excessive amounts of blood. And the more blood she produces, the more anemic and lightheaded she gets, ultimately leading to frequent nosebleeds.

Her only solution? Force her excess blood onto random strangers, which surprisingly causes these “victims” to become livelier and happier than before.

With her siblings—Anju, her reserved yet affectionate younger sister, and Ren, her womanizing elder brother—helping her abilities remain a secret by altering the affected humans’ memories, no one is the wiser.

That is, until Karin’s newly transferred classmate, Kenta Usui, finds her behavior suspicious. To make matters even more complicated, Karin feels her blood reacting unusually to Kenta’s presence.

11. Dance in the Vampire Bund

Dance in the Vampire Bund

This Vampire anime is about Vampire queen Mina Tepesh comes out of hiding to offer peace between vampires and humans. Japan gives her a bund, where she goes to live with her people. However, extremist human and vampire groups do not want to coexist.

To be honest, it’s really surprising to see so many reviews giving Vampire Bund such a low score. For me, it was the best vampire anime I’ve ever seen. I can’t say that I’m obsessed with vampires, but it’s certainly an interesting genre.

Unfortunately there isn’t really a lot of animes which use this theme to its fullest. In that sense, Vampire Bund has managed to utilize all the glory of the vampire legend and myth.

10. Strike the Blood

Strike the Blood

This Vampire anime is about The Fourth Primogenitor-That’s the world’s strongest vampire that should only exist in legends. Accompanied by twelve Kenjuu and spreading calamity, this phantom vampire appeared in Japan.

For the observation and obliteration of this Fourth Primogenitor, the government and Lion King decided to dispatch an attack mage known as a Sword Shaman. However, for some reason, the one chosen for the observation was a apprentice Sword Shaman girl, Himegari Yukina.

Wielding the strongest anti-primogenitor spirit spear, Yukina arrived at Demon District, Itogami City. What is the true identity of the Fourth Primogenitor, Akatsuki Kojou, she encountered over there!?

9. Black Blood Brothers

Black Blood Brothers

This Vampire anime is about Remnants of a vampire clan that wanted to rule the world alone, but got defeated in a war by joined forces of other vampires and humans, kidnap the brother of a vampire war veteran. He looks for them in a secret vampire city.

The story of life and death colored by black and red, and the vampires that transcend them begins. You’ll be the witness of the legend of bloody race living in the shadow.

This is an amazing anime series and it’s kind of a spin off of blade if you ask me since the hero has a sword, black blood brothers is full of intense action and full of blood and gore, anyone who likes Japanese anime, vampires, nonstop action, and blood, guts, and gory anime fans will love this.

8. Blood +

Blood +

The story of this Vampire anime is dark, sad and action-packed. I like how they present everything with a sad setting; it’s not like it’s just one big brawl after another; it is emotions and resolve-strengthening, it’s battles which have a reason other than just being yet another battle.

The story keeps complex but simple enough to follow without too much thinking “what’s happening?”

The animation style in Blood+ is cool. It’s got good shading details, and the characters look good too; they’ve got a nice variation of character designs, some detailed and some maybe not so detailed.

The animation is flawless; at least no noticeable errors. The background art in this series is amazing; the sceneries and cityscapes are wonderful to look at.

7. Trinity Blood

Trinity Blood

Owari No Seraph

This Vampire anime starts in 2012, the world allegedly comes to an end at the hands of a human-made virus, ravaging the global populace and leaving only children untouched. It is at this time that vampires emerge from the recesses of the earth, likely followed by age-old horrors of the dark thought only to be myth.

The vampires sweep the earth and claim it in a single violent stroke, subjugating the remnants of humanity and leading them beneath the surface to safety. This “protection” comes at the price of donating blood to their captors. At the age of twelve, Yuichiro and his friend and fellow orphan Mikaela plotted to escape along with the children in the Hyakuya Orphanage.

However, this resulted in their deaths, and Mikaela sacrificed himself for Yuichiro to escape and be saved by members of the Moon Demon Company, an extermination unit of the Japanese Imperial Demon Army. Four years later, Yuichiro dedicates his life to destroying vampires and seeking revenge against them for murdering his “family.”.

5. Shiki

This Vampire anime is about Sotobamura a small village with around 1300 residents; so small the village isn’t even connected to a single highway.

An isolated village in which old customs, such as the burial of the dead, are still practiced. One day, the bodies of three people are found dead.

Although Ozaki Toshio, the village’s lone doctor, feels uncertain, he treats the deaths as a normal occurrence. However, in the days following, the villagers start to die one after the other.
