Updated May 22, 2024, by Shagun Singh: Given the recent start of the anime adaptation for Kaiju No.8, it’s no surprise that the series has garnered a lot of attention. And it’s well-deserved. Nevertheless, the manga continues to provide a consistent source of entertainment. For readers new to the series, the story revolves around Kafka Hibino, a middle-aged man who unexpectedly transforms into a Kaiju. With his newfound Kaiju powers, he embarks on a journey to fulfil his childhood promise of joining the Japanese Defence Force and pursuing his dreams. For those who enjoy the familiar shonen tropes in manga, here are some recommendations to consider. I have made some updates and refined my list of recommendations for you. I hope you enjoy it.
Let’s get right to making our list.
Here Are Some Anime/Manga Like Kaiju No. 8
13. Dandadan
- Creator(s): Tatsu Yukinobu
- Release Years: 2021
- Genre: Action, Comedy, Supernatural
Did you know that the Magna is one of the hottest cars of 2022? Dandadan, it is.
Dandadan is the best action manga for the new age.
It’s about two high school students who discover something strange: out of the blue, a monster, ghost, or alien starts to show up.
It could be a good choice if you are sick of all the same suggestions and want to try something new and interesting.
12. Iron Knight
- Creator(s): Yagi Tomohiro
- Release Years: 2013-2014
- Genre: Action, Fantasy, Supernatural
Are you looking for something quick and full? Then you might like Iron Knight, which has only 18 parts spread out over 3 books.
It’s a fantasy and horror comic about the end of the world caused by monsters.
Another thing is that the main character of Iron Knight can turn into a monster, just like Kaiju No. 8. You could also say “one of the strongest monsters.”
However, it’s only available in manga and hasn’t been turned into an anime yet.
11. Phantom Seer
- Creator(s): Matsuura Kento, Gotou Tougo
- Release Years: 2020-2021
- Genre: Action, Horror, Supernatural
Phantom Seer follows the trend of comic heroes who have the powers of the monsters they are supposed to kill.
Not like Kafka, the main character, Iori Kusanagi, is a shaman who doesn’t really enjoy helping people solve their mysterious problems.
He is helpful and good at what he does, but he doesn’t want to help and isn’t nice to other people either.
The shadow ghost he has is called the Shadow Demon Ongyoki, and it helps Iori in many ways.
It has the power to heal, kill, and stop other phantoms by stepping on their shadows.
10. World Trigger
- Creator(s): Ashihara Daisuke
- Release Years: 2017
- Genre: Action, Sci-Fi
The main character in World Trigger is also magical; her name is Yuuma Kuga, and she is a teenager who lives next door.
In World Trigger, neighbors are beings from other dimensions who are thought to be behind the attack on and destruction of Mikado City.
But just as they were about to lose even more, the Border Patrol showed up and stopped the chaos.
Yuuma joined the Border Defense Agency even though she is a neighbor and is a very useful tool.
He is a skilled fighter who knows how to use a variety of tools in battle.
The manga has a more complex story and system that deals with many mysteries, powers, and characters, which will keep you interested the whole time.
9. Fire Force
- Creator(s): Ookubo Atsushi
- Release Years: 2015-2022
- Genre: Action, Supernatural
In some ways, Kaiju No. 8 and Fire Force are a lot alike. Both have scary, powerful beings who are after people and are being hunted by an organization whose only job is to kill them.
The main characters in both mangas are also very excited and wish they could be heroes.
The story of Fire Force is about firefighters who have to put out Infernals, which are people who have spontaneously caught fire.
When they are ready to go into battle, they are trained in schools before being sent out into the field.
The world has a long and interesting past, and many important events are still a mystery.
8. Tokyo Ghoul
- Creator(s): Ishida Sui
- Release Years: 2011-2014
- Genre: Action, Fantasy, Horror
Tokyo Ghoul is always at the top of the list when people talk about the best manga of all time.
The theme is like Kaiju No. 8, where the main character fights both monsters and people.
Also, like Kaiju No. 8, Keniki, the main character of Tokyo Ghoul, hides who he is from everyone else.
The good news is that both the manga and the anime shows are done.
7. My Hero Academia
- Creator(s): Horikoshi Kouhei
- Release Years: 2016
- Genre: Action
One of the most famous ongoing manga right now is My Hero Academia, and for good reason. There are many characters in it, each of whom has a unique skill called a quirk.
The characters with the most noticeable quirks tend to be heroes or criminals.
Young Izuku Midoriya has always wished to be a hero in this world, but when he failed to manifest a quirk, he was crushed and told to focus on a more practical goal.
He was lucky enough to meet All Might, the world’s greatest hero, later in life and learn about his bad luck.
Not long after that, Izuku did something very brave and heroic, which made All Might give him his quirk.
This was the beginning of Izuku’s path to becoming a hero and following his dreams.
6. Jujutsu Kaisen
- Creator(s): Akutami Gege
- Release Years: 2020
- Genre: Action, Supernatural
The Jujutsu Kaisen is what you should read next if you liked Kaiju No. Monsters, creatures, or cures that are dangerous are what people fight in both places.
And the main characters in both shows change so much over the course of the stories. On top of that, you can watch the best fight scenes of all time here.
Also, you can watch it as an anime, and next year it will get a second season.
5. Gantz
- Creator(s): Oku Hiroya
- Release Years: 2000-2013
- Genre: Action, Drama, Horror, Sci-Fi, Supernatural
This is a manga called Gantz about two high school students who jumped to their deaths to save a homeless guy from an oncoming train.
From that point forward, a black sphere known as Gantz chose them to participate in deadly battles and briefly brought them back to life.
Kei Kurono and Masaru Kato are the names of the two students. Kurono was usually hesitant to help people, while Kato had a bit of a hero complex at first.
But after Gantz hired them, their personalities started to change.
Kato dreaded every task, while Kurono found a new reason to live.
With each fight, Kurono also learns more about how to care for other people.
4. Attack on Titan
- Creator(s): Hajime Isayama
- Release Years: 2009-2021
- Genre: Action, Drama
Of course, Attack on Titan isn’t exactly the same as Kaiju No. 8, but it does match up with some predictions.
This manga is the best and most thorough, which is the first reason I think you should read it.
Finally, the second reason is that the main character’s life is a lot like their own.
Like, humans have some dangerous enemies in both worlds, and the main characters in both worlds get their powers by mistake.
3. Jagaaaaaan
- Creator(s): Kaneshiro Muneyuki, Nishida Kensuke
- Release Years: 2017-2021
- Genre: Drama, Horror, Mystery, Supernatural
Shintarou Jagasaki, the main character of Jagaaaaaan, was also a normal person who was unhappy with his job and life in general.
Things changed for him when a strange thing took over his right hand and gave it the power to fire dangerous shots.
The bad news is that the event that led to this also killed his partner as a police officer, and he was told what kind of thing was in his hand.
After something of a similar kind took over his fiancée, he became more determined than ever to find and kill all of the species.
As the story goes on, he meets other strong, broken humans with special skills. He is called a “fractured human.”
2. One Punch Man
- Creator(s): Yusuke Murata, ONE
- Release Years: 2015
- Genre: Action, Comedy
Kaiju No. 8 and One Punch Man may have the most in common. One Punch Man is known for being funny, but it is also a very interesting manga.
For the same reason that Kafka is very strong, the hero Saitama can end most fights with just one punch.
Monsters are also a problem in the world, and it is the job of a group of heroes to get rid of them.
The monsters are also rated for how dangerous they are, just like in Kaiju No. 8, and they can think deeply and plan all the time.
Unlike Kafka, though, Saitama is thought to have gotten his skills through hard training.
Both of the main characters, though, want to be heroes.
1. Chainsaw Man
- Creator(s): Fujimoto Tatsuki
- Release Years: 2022
- Genre: Action, Supernatural
It’s name says it all! Desnji’s poor life changes forever when he meets Pochita, his chainsaw dog pet.
He now lives in the city and works as a Devil Hunter. But he needs to learn a lot about his new job and how to use the chainsaw!
The eighth book in the Kaiju series is about a man who can turn into a monster. He also kills monsters to keep people safe and make his hero’s dreams come true.
The same is true for Chainsaw Man, who can change into either a chainsaw man or a monster.
The main characters in both shows are great, and the supporting characters are just as great.
