Jujutsu Kaisen: Why Does Gojo Cover his Eyes

Since the initial season of Jujutsu Kaisen premiered in fall 2020, it’s clear that the entire series has been a hit with viewers.

From the amazing animation of MAPPA to the catchy soundtrack and engaging plot and characters the shonen series has made its way to the top of the list as one of the seasons’ fans’ top choices.

In the vast list of characters that are great, there’s one character who has become almost everyone’s favorite teacher: Gojo Satoru.

He’s the most powerful (he admits it himself). admits that he is.

Who wouldn’t be interested in a blonde man in blindfolds, who looks like the reverse Hatake Kakashi

It’s important to note that the voice actor for him is Yuichi Nakamura, who also voices other popular characters from the fandom.

In the course of the season, we can see Gojo’s eyes are covered with a blindfold and at times, a pair of dark glasses

The season came to an end in March and left us with a lot of questions about what’s to be. However, there may be one that makes you wonder what the reason is for Gojo wearing blindfolds?

He is only known to remove his blindfold when he begins to take on a serious attitude in battle as we witnessed in his battle against Jogo (Episode 7) and towards the close of the Sister School Exchange Event arc (Episode 20).

Apart from that, there are some who may not know the exact way he sees beneath the blindfold.

We’re lucky, Gege Akutami, the creator of the series, spoke about this issue in his Jujutsu Kaisen official fan book that was released in March 2021.

The book is exclusive to Japanese and Twitter user @kaikaikitan is providing the English-speaking fans with a Translation.

In essence, Gojo’s Six Eyes (his family’s cursed technique) allows him to see the energy of the curse in stunning clarity.

Because of this amazing capability of enhanced sight and sharp focus, he is easily exhausted, even and without a blindfold.

Therefore, the blindfold acts as an object to reduce the intensity for the person. Whatever way, he’ll still see everything clearly beneath it.

This is why we see him only take it off in battles. He saves it for times when he’s required to unleash his power!

There are people who are blessed with four eyes (if you are aware of what I am talking about) however, it causes us to have blurred vision.

Although the idea of having a clear vision is attractive, I’m not sure I could imagine how exhausting it is to be able to see everything in hyper-enhanced perfect detail through six Eyes.

The question we asked is finally being answered by Akutami sensei.

If he has to cover his eyes, how does Gojo see?

Since Gojo’s eyes function well, he doesn’t require them to see in a traditional sense. In a discussion of Comic Book, Gege Akutami claimed his eyes are so powerful that they are able to function when they’re closed.

His abilities are so powerful that he basically utilizes them to look for himself.

“He can even see like high-resolution thermography when wearing a blindfold,” said the researcher.

“He can even recognize things that don’t have cursed energy, such as buildings, through the residue and the flow of the cursed energy.”

Gojo removes the blindfold only when he wishes to make use of Domain Expansion. This is a jujutsu method that could trap someone within the user’s Innate Domain.

In this situation they can’t be avoided, essentially making sure they win any fight.

Gojo is so powerful that he is able to make use of this attack several times per day. A typical sorcerer could only make use of it once per day.
