18 Best Rock-Type Monsters in Yu-Gi-Oh!

Rock-Type Monsters aren’t very common, so most Yu-Gi-Oh players don’t pay much attention to them because they rarely change the meta.

This is too bad, because I think rock monsters have a lot to give in terms of fun. There are a lot of cool monsters and different ways to play.

So this list will focus on the best rock-type monsters, and hopefully more players will give them another look.

How long has it been since you played against a rock deck that wasn’t Magna Warriors?

You might have to think back to when Exxod and the Sphinxes lived. There have been so many new rock hits since then that you might not even know them.

Disclaimer: There are no archetypes. Let’s be honest, you know the best models already. This list will focus on cards that aren’t as well known or are “independent.”

18. Lost Guardian

Rock-Type Monsters

The first card on the list that has been available for a long time.

Lost Guardian has been a constant in any rock deck for a long time.

Its DEF stat can go up to 4000, which is crazy for a level 4 monster.

If you didn’t already know, there are a lot of cards that can get rid of your rock monsters in a way that works for the whole deck.

At least one Lost Guardian should go into your rock deck.

17. Doki Doki

dokidoki 1 18 Best Rock-Type Monsters in Yu-Gi-Oh!

Every good deck needs a card that can put monsters in your graveyard or on the field. Doki Doki is the gem of rock types for this reason.

If you have the right card in your hand, it can help you call any monster from your deck.

Even though it would be much better if it was either level 3 or a tuner, it’s still a great card to have in a rock deck.

16. Giant Soldier of Steel

GiantSoldierofSteel 1 18 Best Rock-Type Monsters in Yu-Gi-Oh!

Yugi’s famous normal monster, Giant Soldier of Stone, is pretty much replaced by this monster.

Giant Soldier of Steel is an updated version of the original, and it’s a card that’s worth using.

It can only be used in rock-type decks, but it makes those decks much better at defense.

It’s easy to call up and will protect you until your other monsters arrive.

15. Gate Blocker

15 gate blocker yugioh card 1 18 Best Rock-Type Monsters in Yu-Gi-Oh!

Often, it’s just as important to go on the attack as it is to limit what your opponent can do and protect your weak monsters.

Gate Blocker is an LVL4 card with 100 ATK and 2000 DEF that stops your opponent’s Field Spells from working.

For a lot of decks, this is a big deal. And Gate Blocker is even worse for counter-based decks because it stops your opponent from putting counters on the Field.

Lastly, this card gives safety to your other monsters as well. Because it is the only card your opponent can use effects on when it is on the field.

14. Tackle Crusader

14 tackle crusader ygo card 1 18 Best Rock-Type Monsters in Yu-Gi-Oh!

Monsters can sometimes be much more useful in the Graveyard than they are on the field.

Here’s a good example of this:

Tackle Crusader is an LVL4 with 1500 ATK/1800 DEF.

And when it goes to the Graveyard, you can either target an opponent’s monster and change it from face-up Attack Position to face-down Defense Position, or target an opponent’s face-up Spell or Trap and send it back to their hand.

If you do the second option, your opponent can’t use any cards until the end of the turn that have the same name as the card you returned.

These effects aren’t that big of a deal.

But it’s a good idea to be able to mess up your opponent’s front or back row.

13. Prank-Kids Rocksies

13 prank kids rocksies card yugioh 1 18 Best Rock-Type Monsters in Yu-Gi-Oh!

This card isn’t as high on the list as some others because it forces you to use a Prank-Kids deck.

But it’s a great card that’s part of a Yu-Gi-Oh! strategy that’s making a name for itself in professional play.

The level 4 Prank-Kids Rocksies has 1500 ATK and 1500 DEF.

When used as Fusion or Link Material for a Prank-Kids monster, you can Banish a card from your hand to draw a card and then Special Summon any Prank-Kids monster from your hand or Deck.

In most cards, you have to spend resources to do a Special Summon. For Prank-Kids, though, you end up with more monsters on the field and more ability to draw cards.

12. El-Shaddoll Grysta

12 el shaddoll grysta ygo card 1 18 Best Rock-Type Monsters in Yu-Gi-Oh!

This card is kind of low on the list because, like “Prank-Kids Rocksies,” it locks you into a certain deck.

But this is a great monster that makes it impossible to Summon it.

El-Shaddoll Grysta is a Level 7 monster with 2450 ATK and 1950 DEF. He has an ability that happens once per turn:

You can send a Shaddoll card from your hand to the Graveyard to stop a Special Summon and destroy the monster.

It’s also important to note that Shaddoll decks usually like to use the monsters of their opponents as parts for their Fusion monsters. So when you bring out this monster, your opponent will already be behind.

11. Barrier Statue of the Drought

11 barrier statue of the drought yugioh card 1 18 Best Rock-Type Monsters in Yu-Gi-Oh!

If you can keep your Barrier Statue cards safe, they can really change the game.

Barrier Statue of the Drought is an LVL4 with only 1000 ATK and 1000 DEF.

But while it’s on the field, you can only Special Summon EARTH monsters.

This card can stop your opponent from starting attacks and make them move very slowly.

This monster is weak in fight. But if your opponent has to use their Main Phase to fight this thing, it has already done its job.

10. Gallant Granite

10 gallant granite ygo card 1 18 Best Rock-Type Monsters in Yu-Gi-Oh!

There are a lot of good Rock XYZ monsters, which is shocking. This one is no different; it’s a good searcher.

Gallant Granite is a Level 4 XYZ monster with 2300 ATK and 1800 DEF. You can remove a material from it to put a Rock monster from your deck into your hand.

This can search a lot of targets, and if you already have everything you need in your hand, you can Special Summon a face-down Defense position Rock monster from your hand instead.

9. Daigusto Emeral

09 daigusto emeral card yugioh 1 18 Best Rock-Type Monsters in Yu-Gi-Oh!

This is a great monster to add to your Deck if you need more draw power.

And it’s even better if you use any Normal monsters.

Daigusto Emeral is an LVL4 XYZ with 1800 ATK and 800 DEF. When you remove a material from it, you can choose between two effects.

First, you can draw a card by putting three monsters from your Graveyard back into your deck. This is great, and it’s even better if you have search cards.

The second effect lets you bring back a Normal monster from your Graveyard as a Special Summon.

So, if you can throw something strong in there ahead of time, you can get some tough customers on the field for free.

8. Adamancipator Researcher

08 adamancipator researcher yugioh card 1 18 Best Rock-Type Monsters in Yu-Gi-Oh!

It wouldn’t be fair to have a list of Rock songs and not include Adamancipator.

In professional Yu-Gi-Oh! in 2020, this deck was making a lot of noise. Even though it’s not being used in tournaments right now, it’s still a good plan, and this card is one of their best.

The Adamancipator Researcher is a Level 2 monster with 100 ATK and 2100 DEF. It can be Special Summoned if you control a Rock monster.

You can also dig up the top 5 cards of your deck, then Special Summon any LVL4 monster that isn’t a Tuner Rock and put the rest of the cards at the bottom of your deck.

This is a great way to get monsters on the field fast, maybe to use as parts for Boss monsters (like one much higher on this list).

7. The Light – Hex Sealed Fusion.

07 the light hex sealed fusion ygo card 1 18 Best Rock-Type Monsters in Yu-Gi-Oh!

There are a few cards called “Hex Sealed Fusion.” You’ll want to choose one that works well with your deck, but they all have similar powers and are great for Fusion decks.

The Light – Hex Sealed Fusion is an LVL3 item with 1000 ATK and 1600 DEF.

But its value comes from its effect, which lets you use it as a replacement for any Fusion material, as long as the other material is right.

If you use this card to Special Summon a LIGHT Fusion monster, you can also avoid using “Polymerization.”

And this rule is what makes each ‘Hex Sealed Fusion’ card unique.

6. Number 106: Giant Hand

06 number 106 giant hand card yugioh 18 Best Rock-Type Monsters in Yu-Gi-Oh!

Effects that can be stopped are useful in any deck.

And it turns out that there is a Rock XYZ monster that does it very well.

Giant Hand is an LVL4 XYZ monster with 2000 ATK and 2000 DEF.

If you remove 2 materials from it, you can target an opponent’s monster and cancel the effects of that monster.

As long as this card is on the field, that monster can’t change where it fights either.

The monster you want to keep in place is actually held in place by Giant Hand. So you can do whatever you want next.

5. Fossil Dyna Pachycephalo

05 fossil dyna pachycephalo ygo card 1 18 Best Rock-Type Monsters in Yu-Gi-Oh!

This monster has a very powerful effect, but it’s also so strong that you’ll need to be careful.

Fossil Dyna Pachycephalo is an LVL4 monster with 1200 ATK/1300 DEF and this deadly effect:

When it is turned over, it destroys every Special Summoned monster.

On top of that, neither player can Special Summon while it’s on the field.

Obviously, you need to find a way around this result.

But since many powerful decks rely greatly on combos and Extra Deck, this can win games outright.

4. Number 68: Sanaphond the Sky Prison

04 number 68 sanaphond the sky prison card yugioh 1 18 Best Rock-Type Monsters in Yu-Gi-Oh!

The Graveyard is an important part of many very strong decks.

And having monsters there can be much more useful than just having them in the deck.

All of that changes with this card.

Sanaphond, the Sky Prison, is an LVL8 XYZ monster with 2100 ATK and 2700 DEF. And its name is perfect because it turns the Graveyard into a jail.

This monster gets 100 ATK/DEF for each monster in both Graveyards, and you can remove a material from it to make it immune to effects that would destroy it.

This can also stop all Special Summoning from the Graveyards for a turn, which can stop a lot of plans in their tracks.

3. Gigantes

03 gigantes yugioh card 1 18 Best Rock-Type Monsters in Yu-Gi-Oh!

A free monster that can destroy material and the back row?

Not bad for a monster of level 4.

Gigantes has 1900 ATK and 1300 DF, and you can’t Normal Summon it.

But you can Special Summon it from your hand by sending 1 EARTH monster from your Graveyard to the Extra Deck. This makes it easy to use as Link, XYZ, or Synchro material.

If your opponent has a lot of scary Spells and Traps, it becomes more important to get rid of them.

And if this card is destroyed in battle, you can destroy every Spell or Trap on the board.

This is mostly XYZ/Synchronized stuff and “Heavy Storm,” and “Heavy Storm” is on the list of banned moves.

2. Adamancipator Risen – Dragite

02 adamancipator risen dragite ygo card 1 18 Best Rock-Type Monsters in Yu-Gi-Oh!

This monster has great stats, can cause trouble, and cancels out effects.

Everything you could want in a Boss monster.

Adamancipator Risen: Dragite is a Level 8 Synchro with 3000 ATK and 2200 DEF. It has an ability that lets you dig up the top 5 cards of your deck, and for each Rock monster you dig up, you can return a card from your opponent’s hand to their hand.

Then, you put the cards you dug up at the bottom of your deck.

This is one of the best ways to get rid of a threat in the game because it doesn’t target or destroy anything.

If you have a WATER monster in your Graveyard, you can also use a Quick Effect to stop Spells and Traps from working and destroy them. The WATER monster also doesn’t get hurt, so you can do this every time.

1. Nibiru, the Primal Being

01 nibiru the primal being card yugioh 1 18 Best Rock-Type Monsters in Yu-Gi-Oh!

Nibiri is the best card on this list, and there isn’t a better one.

The one card that makes any player of a combo deck feel scared.

Nibiru, the Primal Being has a unique effect: if your opponent summons 5 or more monsters on their turn, you can sacrifice as many face-up monsters as you can and then Summon this very powerful 3000 ATK/600 DEF Meteorite to your side of the field.

Your opponent does get something to make up for it, though:

They get a symbol with the same ATK and DEF as all the monsters they killed.

But you’d probably rather face a Token that can hit hard than a field full of monsters and bad effects.
