Tokyo Ghoul is a dark fantasy and supernatural anime series created by Sui Ishida. It debuted on Tokyo Max on July 4th, 2014, by studio Pierrot.
Tokyo Ghoul is a great pick if you’re looking for a gory, cannibalistic anime to watch.
This anime contains a lot of gore and cannibalism. However, gore and cannibalism are reasons that separate him from other typical Seinen anime.

Tokyo Ghoul Plot
This series follows Kaneki Ken, a shy, bookish college student, who is instantly drawn to Rize Kamishiro, an avid reader like himself.
However, Rize is not exactly who she seems, and this unfortunate meeting pushes Kaneki into the dark depths of the ghouls’ inhuman world.
Kaneki is confronted by a Ghoul in an unexpected turn of events, and he barely escapes. Following that, he discovers that he has been transformed into a half-ghoul after receiving an organ transplant from a ghoul who attacks him.
Thus begins his new, concealed existence as a half-ghoul/half-human who must find a way to integrate into both societies.
There are four seasons and two spin-offs in the Tokyo Ghoul franchise.
Tokyo Ghoul Season 1
Its first season aired from July 4, 2014, to September 19, 2014, and was simply titled Tokyo Ghoul. It contains 12 episodes.
The main focus of the first season is Kaneki’s transformation into a ghoul after being attacked by his date Rize (who herself was a ghoul).
Following that, members of the ghoul society take him in and teach him ghoul ways, but he struggles to adapt to their flesh-eating ways while keeping it a secret from his human friends.
Unfortunately, he is captured by a Ghoul gang due to inheriting the organ of Rize.
Tokyo Ghoul √A – Season 2
Its second season aired from January 9, 2015, July to March 27, 2015. It contains 12 episodes and the title of this season is Tokyo Ghoul √A.
This season’s story picked up right where season 1 left off, with Kaneki accepting the monster that he has become.
This series follows Ken Kaneki after he joins the Aogiri Tree. Then he and his group battle against the CCG to protect his friends and former comrades who are the Anteiku coffee shop’s ghouls.
Tokyo Ghoul:re – Season 3
Its 3rd season aired from Apr 03, 2018, to Jun 19, 2018. It contains 12 episodes and the title of this season is Tokyo Ghoul: re.
This season takes place two years after the CCG raid on Anteiku. Despite the fact that the atmosphere in Tokyo has changed dramatically as a result of the CCG’s increased influence.
This season continues the life of Haise Sasaki (Kaneki Ken’s new identity), a CCG member and the leader of the Quinx Squad (a group of half-ghoul, half-human hybrids who attack and defeat ghouls).
Tokyo Ghoul:re 2nd Season – Season 4
Season 4 is the last season of the Tokyo Ghoul franchise. It aired from Oct 09, 2018, to Dec 25, 2018. It contains 12 episodes and the title of this season is Tokyo Ghoul: re 2nd Season.
The anime is a direct sequel to the first season of Tokyo Ghoul: re. This season follows Kaneki Ken on his journey to becoming the true One-Eyed King and leader of the ghouls.
His goal is to establish a working relationship between humans and ghouls.
Tokyo Ghoul: “Jack”
This is an OVA of the Tokyo Ghoul franchise, which aired on September 30, 2015.
This OVA depicts the lives of the CCG’s “Reaper,” Arima and Taishi Fura, during their high school years.
During his high school years, Arima was secretly working undercover for the CCG. He is on a mission to capture the Lantern Ghoul in this story.
Whereas, Taishi Fura is a normal high school student until his best friend is killed and another is seriously injured by a Lantern Ghoul attack.
Seeking revenge for his friends, Fura joins forces with Arima to hunt down Lantern Ghoul.
Tokyo Ghoul: “Pinto”
This is also an OVA of the Tokyo Ghoul franchise which aired on December 25, 2015.
This OVA depicts how Shuu Tsukiyama and Chie Hori met.
Shuu Tsukiyama is a “Ghoul” creature who is photographed by the camera of high schooler Chie Hori while eating human flesh.
However, she had no fear, whether he was eating his own flesh or there was a dead body lying there, and even after Tsukiyama threats, she said she liked photography.
So, he took the photo and she had no interest in revealing his identity as a ghoul. But Shuu Tsukiyama doubts her motives.
