Sonic Superstars will get a free Shadow costume.

If you’re a Sonic fan, the recent PlayStation State of Play show was pretty good. This is mostly because Sega showed off Sonic x Shadow Generations, a game whose title will scare parents and kids for years to come.

After being ignored for a while, it gave Shadow the Hedgehog the attention he deserved, which made fans of the series very happy. And Sega is going the extra mile by adding him to Sonic Superstars in the past… as a costume.

Sega has said that a Shadow the Hedgehog costume will be added to Sonic Superstars on February 15 for all platforms. This is in honor of the announcement of Sonic x Shadow Generations, which was first reported by Game Informer.

Not only that, but it will be a free addition to the game, and you can use this Shadow costume while playing the Story Mode. We won’t have to wait long to see the costume in the game, even though Sega hasn’t released any pictures of it yet.

If you’re a fan of the Sonic series, you probably know that Shadow was a big quest from the series to be included in Sonic Superstars, as he is in every game that features Sonic’s colorful cast of friends.

Takashi Iizuka, the creative director of Sonic Team, explained that Shadow’s inclusion wouldn’t make sense because he “was in a capsule at that time,” explaining that the Modern series, which Shadow first appeared in in Sonic Adventure 2, predated the Classic series on which Superstars is based.

It’s great for Sega and Sonic Team to have actually found a way to resolve such a significant fan quest by having Shadow appear in costume form, which obviously circumvents the whole time line issue.

There are some cool costumes in Superstars, like the Lego costumes and the one that lets you run around as Sonic’s original bunny design. We’ll have to see if this costume is real or just a color swap.

This news makes it seem like Sega and Sonic Team are attempting to make 2024 like Shadow’s year. Not only will Sonic Superstars get a Shadow costume and Sonic Generations remastered will get Shadow DLC, but Sonic the Hedgehog 3 will also set Shadow the Hedgehog as the main bad guy. Shadow’s year is going to be big, and it’s about time.
