Dead Mount Death Play Manga Gets Anime Adaptation

Square Enix announced on Tuesday that Ryohgo Narita and Shinta Fujimoto’s Dead Mount Death Play manga would be adapted into a television anime series that will premiere in April 2023.

With this, the author has released a commemorative illustration with the announcement.

Along with an announcement, the franchise has also confirmed a release date and posted a teaser trailer.

The anime’s new official website and Twitter have also posted the visuals.

A teaser trailer for the anime has been released by King Amusement Creative.

Manabu Ono (Sword Art Online: Alicization, Saki, Sakura Wars the Animation) is directing the series and co-writing the scripts with Yukie Sugiwara (Overlord, The Vampire Dies in No Time) and Yoriko Tomita (My Dress-Up Darling, As Miss Beelzebub likes it.).

Takaharu Kuma (Diary of Our Days at the Breakwater) is listed as a “sub-director,” and Yoshiki Kitai is listed as a “assistant director.”

The series is being animated by GEEK TOYS.

The characters are being designed by Hisashi Abe (Chobits, Gunslinger Girl, Psycho-Pass: Sinners of the System). The sound director is Takayuki Yamaguchi.

Sound production is ascribed to HALF HP STUDIO. The soundtrack is composed by F.M.F (Yki Nara, eba, Kana Utatane).

The Cast Includes:

  1. Yuki Sakakihara as Polka Shinoyama
  2. Inori Minase as Misaki Sakimiya
  3. Yūma Uchida as Takumi Kuruya

Yen Press publishes the manga in English as chapters are released in Japan.

Yen Press describes the plot as:

It’s a showdown for the ages as the legendary hero takes on the corpse god necromancer, but when the dust settles, something isn’t quite right… In the final moments of their epic confrontation, the corpse god’s final gambit shot was wholly unexpected — reincarnation magic! Across space and time, a boy named Polka Shinoyama awakens feeling…not quite himself…… Who could’ve expected that the climactic battle between good and evil would turn out like this??

In October 2017, Narita and Fujimoto published the manga in Square Enix’s Young Gangan magazine.

Square Enix released the manga’s ninth compiled book volume on April 25, and the tenth volume will be released on November 25.

On September 27, Yen Press released the manga’s eighth volume.

Fujimoto (Red Raven) began and finished the manga adaptation of Narita and illustrator Katsumi Enami’s Baccano! light novel series in Young Gangan in October 2015.

In April 2017, Square Enix released the manga’s third and final compilation book volume. Yen Press licensed the manga and released the chapters digitally alongside the Japanese release, as well as the manga volumes physically.

In 2003, Narita launched the ongoing Baccano! light book series, with drawings by Katsumi Enami. The series will be published in North America by Yen Press and in 2007, an anime based on the series was created.

Durarara!! novels by Narita, illustrated by Suzuhito Yasuda, have inspired numerous adaptations, including television anime, video games, and manga series.

In North America, Yen Press publishes light novels and comics. The original arc of the novels concluded in 2014 with the 13th volume, and Narita restarted the series as Durarara!! SH.
