Sims 4: SimCare Safety Net

Life is full of surprises. Receive assistance for your Sims whenever they require it with the SimCare mod.

While The Sims 4 is known for being a life simulation game, it doesn’t fully capture the challenges and difficulties that our Sims may face.

Even significant tragedies like death are portrayed in a lighthearted manner, which helps to lessen the impact when compared to real life.

One major challenge that Sims often face is related to their finances.

If Sims don’t have enough money to cover their basic bills, they may experience repossession, utility shut-offs, or even eviction (introduced in The Sims 4 For Rent).

The SimCare mod by Plumlace introduces a support system for Sims in need, offering a comforting buffer to navigate through challenging times in life.

This SimCare mod introduces a system of benefits to the game where sims can apply for various forms of assistance.

It offers multiple facets of support that can be granted to them.

SimCare: Benefit Packages

There are four distinct advantages that sims can conveniently apply for using the SimCare app on their phone.

If your application is accepted, a dedicated bank account will be set up for your household.

Every week, a deposit will be made into this account, allowing you to easily transfer the funds into your household budget.

SNAP: Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program

The SNAP program provides Sims with financial assistance to purchase groceries.

Regardless of the number of members living in a household, there seems to be a consistent weekly benefit of §96.

By opting for budget-friendly meals and utilizing homegrown produce from farming or community gardens, your sims can maximize the value of this benefit.

Unemployment Benefits

Sims who are not currently employed have the option to apply for Unemployment Benefits.

If the application is accepted, individuals will receive a weekly benefit of §500.

With the option to sell crafted items or scavenge collectibles, your sim can easily boost their income and enjoy a more comfortable lifestyle.

It’s a great tool to assist sims who are just starting out on an unconventional life path, until they can generate enough income to support themselves.

Disability Benefits

Unemployed sims who are not receiving Unemployment Benefits have the option to apply for Disability Benefits.

This program provides a weekly stipend of §750 to qualified sims, offering them some financial support.

It’s not entirely clear how The Sims 4 determines whether a sim receives certain benefits, as disability isn’t a concept in the game.

During my testing, I found that the benefit was not granted immediately. However, my Sim card was approved after a day.

It’s possible that the mod ensures your sim is genuinely unable to work and won’t attempt to find a job.

lternatively, it could be a feature that is only available on weekdays (my testing started on Sunday in-game).

Regardless, this one required a bit more patience to figure out.

Even though this benefit tier is the highest, sims can boost their earnings by pursuing a side hustle that doesn’t fall under the category of a traditional job.

Child Care Credits

Parents with young children can apply for financial assistance to cover the costs of childcare.

This benefit is not applicable to households that solely consist of school-aged children or have no children.

Upon receiving approval for your household, you will be eligible for §150 in weekly benefits.

Initially, I faced some difficulty in getting my sim approved, even though there was a toddler in the household.

However, I found that when I traveled to a lot without the toddler and applied while they were in daycare, my application was successfully approved!

Utility Credits

This benefit allows Sims to receive discounts on their Utilities, which can have a significant impact on their household’s consumption and bills.

You can enhance the efficiency of this credit by incorporating additional eco-friendly solutions like water collectors and solar panels.

This will greatly contribute to minimizing your household energy consumption.

Withdrawal Of Simoleons

To access the monetary benefits provided by this mod, simply go to the SimCare app and choose the option “Check Balance.”

When you access this feature, a screen will appear displaying the total amount of simoleons that your sims have.

From there, you can choose to withdraw some or all of the money into your household funds.

It’s important to note that benefits do not deposit immediately.

After approval, your sims will need to manage until their first weekly deposit comes in.

Limitations

There are a few restrictions with the current version of the SimCare mod.

  • Benefits are open to Young Adults and older individuals. Unfortunately, Teens and Children who do not have a guardian are unable to apply. Sims who have a traditional part-time job are not eligible for these benefits.
  • Individuals may be eligible for unemployment or disability benefits even if their income is insufficient to meet their weekly expenses.
  • If a sim secures a job after being approved for Unemployment Benefits, rest assured that those benefits will remain intact and won’t be automatically disabled.
  • The mod author has not tested SimCare against other mods, so it is currently unclear if there are any conflicts.

Final Words

Not every Sim is suited for a traditional part or full-time job.

If your sim is facing challenges such as disability, parenthood, unemployment, or simply desires a life free from the usual struggles, the SimCare mod offers a range of benefits to support them in achieving that.

Of course, if you’re interested, there is a way to enhance the financial stability of your household.

However, the SimCare mod offers a helpful solution for sims facing difficulties, while still maintaining a level of challenge and realism.

It’s a pleasant way to add some balance to the game without making it overly simple and uninteresting.
