Rumor: A New SOCOM Game Could Be in The Works

A recent mention of a potential project in the SOCOM franchise was spotted in an actor’s resume. But considering the actor in question had passed away some time ago, that evidence seems dubious at best.

In April 2011, the PS3 exclusive SOCOM 4 US Navy SEALs, the most recent entry in the well-known tactical shooter series, was released.

Less than a year later, Sony decided to close Zipper Interactive, its Redmond-based subsidiary in charge of the majority of the franchise, including its original 2002 entry.

Although the series has been inactive for a while, a mention of a possible third installment has recently emerged online, having been spotted in the online resume of the late actor David Veach.

The listing claims that Veach contributed motion capture work on a Sony project called SOCOM 111, as discovered by Reddit user KekanKok.

The resume may be referring to SOCOM 3, which Sony’s marketing occasionally stylized as SOCOM III. This could indicate that a new series entry is in the works, but it could also just be a simple typo.

‘SOCOM 111’ Mention Spotted in Late Actor’s Resume

Veach is not listed among the 558 people with SOCOM 3 credits, on the other hand. Given that the actor’s resume describes him as a “co-star” on the project, one would think that he would have received credit for his work if the game and SOCOM 111 are the same.

However, even if SOCOM 111 was intended to be a new entry in the franchise, there is a chance that it is no longer in active development.

While motion capture work is typically documented fairly early in any franchise, Veach’s involvement in SOCOM 111 had to have occurred years ago, as the Seattle-born actor passed away in January 2022.

A title that completed its mo-cap work in 2021 or earlier would have a good chance of being announced by April 2024, since current AAA game development cycles are about five years long.

There have been no recent hints that Sony is planning to revive the SOCOM franchise. Game Rant was unable to find a cached version of Veach’s resume that would help determine when the SOCOM 111 line was added to it, thereby narrating the mysterious project’s time down.

Regardless, treating this leak as a solid indication that a new SOCOM game is imminent would be optimistic at best given the overall circumstances surrounding it.

The last of these rumors of a SOCOM game for the PS5 died down in the second half of 2020, even though there have been some rumors in the past.
