You have to do more than just get good to succeed in the world of Dark Souls.
Most players require the proper equipment for the job.
Additionally, you should use some fairly awesome weaponry when the task at hand involves murdering a lot of things.
Here is a list to assist you in making fewer decisions because there can be a lot to sort through in the game.
Let’s examine some of the best available weaponry.
NOTE: I’m rating weapons based on how well they would perform generally in PvE and PvP as well as melee-focused playstyles.
17. Ice Rapier
How to obtain: Found in the Crown of the Ivory King DLC, dropped by Rampart Soldiers.
Fans of Dark Souls 2 are quite familiar with the Ice Rapier, especially if you use it for PvP.
This piercing sword’s move set is centred on thrust attacks that combine well with infusions and the Leo Ring for powerful damage, and dexterity builds will favour it.
Its powerful assaults also release ice bolts that you can shoot from a distance.
The bolts can add to an enemy’s usual weapon damage when they are launched point-blank for more harm.
16. Crypt Blacksword
How to get: Trade Old Dead One Soul and 10,000 souls to Weaponsmith Ornifex.
Old Dead One Soul was dropped by the Rotten on an NG+ save.
The first of several hyper greatswords on this list is presented here.
The prerequisites for the Crypt Blacksword are quite high: 40 Strength, 10 Dexterity, 12 Intelligence, and 12 Faith.
This weapon isn’t intended for the early game considering when you can even obtain it, but players who make it through that will be equipped with a weapon that genuinely packs a wallop in both PvE and PvP.
The Crypt Blacksword’s move set is expansive but slow.
Additionally, its powerful two-handed punch has a knockdown effect on foes.
It has average Strength and Dexterity scaling, but it excels at S-scaling on Dark.
Focusing on Intelligence and Faith with a Dark Infusion would be your best bet for getting the most out of this weapon.
It also resembles Guts’ sword from the film Berserk.
15. Sun Sword
Received by reaching Rank 2 in the Heirs of the Sun covenant and offering at least 20 Sunlight Medals.
For “excellent” players who like to play with a straight sword and who invest roughly equal amounts in strength and dexterity, the Sun Sword is a fantastic option.
The Strength/Dexterity scaling offered by this sword is the highest of any other weapon in the group.
The Sun Sword features a quick move set, a significant thrust attack, and a generally low stamina requirement.
Additionally, you can combine it with a shield for some mouthwatering parries!
14. Grand Lance
How to get it: You can get it in a chest in the Memory of Orro if you simply have the base game.
You can find it on a corpse outside the King’s Gate in the Forest of Fallen Giants if you have the Scholar of the First Sin edition.
A lance is liked by strong-built people and pretty much everyone who prefers thrust strikes.
The Grand Lance is a fantastic option for players who don’t mind going all-in on one attack, even though its scaling isn’t the finest in the category.
It can, however, also support safer playstyles that favour shield-guarding while poking out with its expanded range.
It’s important to avoid locking onto your target during the running strike when employing the Grand Lance.
Players that are adept at controlling their charge (and stack Poise) can virtually invincible.
13. A dragon’s tooth
Due to its severe damage to health, stamina, and poise, Dragon Tooth is one of the most recognisable weapons in the series and is dreaded by all players.
Despite being relatively slow, it has a noticeable impact when it hits.
It can be enhanced so that its enormous base damage can be increased even further.
Additionally, when upgraded, this hulk’s strength scaling improves substantially, making it one of the Great Hammers with the highest damage output.
Greater fire and magic defence ancillary effects make it an even more alluring option for gamers.
12. Curved Dragon Greatsword
In Dark Souls II, curved greatswords are a little bit of a speciality item.
They are a somewhat uncommon sight because there aren’t enough of them to pick from.
The Curved Dragon Greatsword, however, is unquestionably one of that class’s most potent options, and for good reason—it is an exceptionally powerful sword.
The basic move set has some limitations because it doesn’t have the range that most players would anticipate from a weapon of its size.
However, the two-handed heavy assault has an extremely long-ranged special attack that is similar to the Drake Sword’s in Dark Souls and can come as a nasty surprise to PVP opponents.
11. Rapier
How to obtain: Purchased 1,000 souls from Blacksmith Leningrad.
Early on in the game, you have access to the Rapier, which is a rather affordable weapon.
It scales with Dexterity fairly well, and if you’re good at getting parries off, you can benefit from its amazing critical damage.
Its quick-hitting moves can help you lock up your opponents while consuming very little stamina.
Like other weapons, the rapier can be used in conjunction with an off-hand weapon for increased damage or a shield for added defence.
10. Longsword
How to obtain The Longsword is available from Blacksmith Lenigrast for 1,300 souls or by being found by Darkdwellers in No Man’s Wharf.
Additionally, there is a Fire-infused variation close to the campfire at Cardinal Tower.
Versatility is the name of the game for the longsword.
This weapon can serve you faithfully through various early game locations while you’re still levelling to raise your priority stats, especially if you manage to snag the Fire variation.
The Fire Longsword, however, allows for a larger concentration on intelligence and faith. Normally, longsword users will favour strength-based builds with hints of dexterity.
Additionally, it features a quick move set with a potent thrust strike for long-range poking.
The Longsword is a fantastic, well-balanced option for both PvE and PvP overall.
9. Great Demon’s Hammer
With a single overhead blow, great hammers are famed for being able to flatten a large number of adversaries.
One such weapon that can be discovered fairly early on is the Demon’s Great Hammer.
With Dyna & Tillo, the invisible bird creatures hiding in a noticeable nest on a ledge in Things Betwixt, players can exchange specific things for other items.
This enormous mace, which has one of the greatest base damage stats in the game, may be obtained by the player if they give them a few trinkets.
This, together with its excellent strength scaling, may make it the ideal beginning weapon for those eager to annihilate opponents right away.
Due to its high strength needed at low levels, one will not be able to wield it with one hand, but as it can one-shot nearly all popular early-game enemies, this will not be a big deal.
8. Drakekeeper’s Greataxe
Due to its late-game acquisition, the Drakekeeper’s Greataxe might only be available in New Game+playthroughs.
It can be an excellent endgame weapon for many setups and is located in a chest inside the Dragon Shrine.
This is an extremely adaptable weapon due to its strong basic damage, longer reach than most other great axes, and relatively low weight.
Its move set, though, is what makes it the finest.
This champion of cleaving effectively possesses the move set of the Crypt Blacksword instead of the regular Greataxe assaults.
Its two-handed combo, which is modelled after a Great Hammer, is the only distinction.
With these adaptable welding techniques, one can annihilate common foes and confuse attackers to their point of surprise.
7. Hammer Smelter
How to obtain: Found in the Crown of the Ivory King DLC, dropped by Iron Warriors.
The Smelter Hammer has the highest Attack Rating (AR) of any Great Hammer in addition to being one of the heaviest weapons in the game.
Any Strength-focused character will experience “hammer time” on a whole new level with this weapon!
Due to the fact that it is the largest weapon in its category, you must be willing to commit to making extremely slow swings in exchange for great damage and a larger threat area.
With this enormous, drumstick-shaped weapon in hand, your adversaries will be able to see you coming from a mile away and will be aware that you intend to do business.
6. Fume Ultra Greatsword
How to get: Purchased by giving Weaponsmith Ornifex the Soul of Fume Knight (a drop from the Fume Knight monster in the Crown of the Old Iron King DLC) and 25,000 souls.
Another excellent choice for premium builds is this hyper greatsword.
However, because of how hefty it is, good weight management is necessary to prevent the “fat roll.”
The stat requirements to use this weapon may therefore seem high.
Players who succeed, receive a weapon that deals absurdly high amounts of damage as well as a variety of move sets, such as block frames, sweeps, smashes, and longer-range thrusts.
The Fume Ultra Wonderful Sword has a bit of a reputation among players; depending on who you ask, it may range from great to horrible to an OP-broken weapon, but it’s definitely worth trying for anyone who loves to inflict pain.
5. Repeating Crossbow Sanctum
The Sanctum Repeating Crossbow, which can be obtained from the dankest of the DS2 DLCs by sanctum knights, fires three of these minute projectiles in quick succession with each attack, dealing less damage per bolt but more cumulative damage than any other crossbow in the game if all three bolts hit their target.
The player can unleash the secondary firing mode by using two hands, which fire tiny dark orbs rather than bolts.
When facing opponents with strong physical defence, this can be incredibly helpful.
There are numerous variations of repeating crossbows seen throughout the Dark Souls series, suggesting that FromSoftware’s designers are in love with these kinds of weapons.
This is probably because the development team is a major admirer of Berserk and the arm-mounted repeating crossbow that the protagonist uses.
4. Red Iron Twinblade
Where to find it: In the Shrine of Amana, on a corpse.
The Red Iron Twinblade is a well-known PvP weapon and a boss-shredding PvE weapon.
For some fantastic initial damage, this weapon largely scales off Strength, however, infusions can add further scaling.
In addition, the Red Iron Twinblade has a more distinctive move set; while somewhat predictable, it also has a thrust attack with a longer range that can catch opponents off guard.
Additionally, it’s excellent for dealing poison damage, especially when combined with the Stone Ring.
3. King’s Ultra Greatsword
How to get: Trade the Soul of the King (which Vendrick dropped) and 10,000 souls to the weaponsmith Ornifex.
This enormous sword resembles a club more than it does a blade. It is only viable for Strength-builds due to its requirement of 50 Strength/10 Dexterity.
In exchange, it has a higher AR than other similarly heavy weapons like the Smelter’s Hammer thanks to its S-scaling in Strength.
It also has a similar set of smashing moves as the Crypt Blacksword.
To put it simply, if you don’t first beat your opponents into a pulp, you’re likely to knock them down.
In addition to being fairly durable itself, each blow you land also causes durability damage to the enemy’s rings and armour.
Additionally, due to its high stability and physical damage mitigation, the King’s Ultra Greatsword may compete when it comes to blocking physical damage.
Defending and offensive? There’s some serious power there!
2. Greatsword
The Greatsword can be obtained in a few different ways: it can be purchased from the Head of Vengarl for 5,000 souls, dropped by Syan Soldiers and Greatsword Phantoms, or discovered in a treasure chest in the top region of No-Wharf.
Despite its name, many players who favour predominantly Strength builds choose this hyper greatsword as their two-handed weapon of choice.
It’s a somewhat beginner-friendly choice that you can pick up early on and use all the way through the game.
The Greatsword has S/D scaling for strength and dexterity when fully improved.
Its broad range compensates for its sluggish animation and recovery period, and every blow is followed by a satisfyingly loud metallic clunk.
The Greatsword also looks somewhat like Guts’ Dragon Slayer from Berserk, which is an extra benefit.
1. Sacred Hammer Chime
How to get: Trade the Soul of Velstadt and 3,000 souls to Weaponsmith Ornifex, who drops the item from Velstadt, the Royal Aegis.
Players must prioritise Strength in order to use this Great Hammer, with just enough Dexterity, Intelligence, and Faith to do so.
The Sacred Chime Hammer, on the other hand, offers incredibly flexible scaling choices based on its infusion, allowing players to stray into Intelligence or Faith builds beyond the necessities.
The Dark infusion delivers the best potential damage at the Sacred Chime Hammer’s highest upgrade level, and that doesn’t take into consideration the numerous shenanigans you may pull off with stances and magic.
