The Vikings and their search for the mysterious and wealthy land of Vinland are at the center of the Vinland Saga. In the past, Vikings were raiders who stole from villages and monasteries.
So, it makes sense that Vinland Saga has a lot of problems and fierce battles.
In the series, many of the Viking characters are good at fighting with and without weapons. Their strength is so great that sometimes even the English army can’t keep up with them.
Let’s rank the strongest characters in the Vinland Saga manga so far based on how strong they are and how much power they have.
15. Cordelia
After Askeladd’s death, Thorfinn ended up a slave farmhand on Ketil’s farm in Denmark. After a few years, he met a new slave named Einar.
Einar’s mother and beloved little sister had been killed, so he was taken as a slave in England.
As expected, Einar was overwhelmed at first, but he got used to the work and earned his freedom. He used his great strength to cut down trees and get rid of their stumps.
This made it possible for him and Thorfinn to make a wheat field and sell the wheat they grew.

13. Ragnar
Ragnar was Prince Canute’s loyal bodyguard for a short time in the Vinland Saga, and he took that job very seriously.
Ragnar wasn’t the best warrior in the Vinland Saga, but he did his job well and was tough by nature, which was both good qualities.
Ragnar lived through several battles while he and Canute were protected by Askeladd, and he was good at fighting.
Ragnar was killed in the end, which was sad, and the dander Canute was devastated by the loss of his guardian.
12. Floki
Floki is a Jomsviking officer, which makes him one of the most skilled and powerful warriors in Europe during the Middle Ages.
The Jomsvikings have a well-deserved reputation for being skilled, strong, and well-trained soldiers who fight together as a group.
In Vinland Saga, Floki doesn’t fight people very often, but his size and his job as a Jomsviking officer show that he is very strong.
He could definitely keep up with warriors like Garm and Askelad, but he’d rather send his troops into battle instead.
11. Garm
Even though he is only averagely strong by Viking Age standards, Garm is one of the most skilled and passionate warriors in the Vinland Saga.
Garm kills his enemies more with skill and speed than with brute strength, but fighting so often is still a great way to stay in shape.
Garm’s strict way of life has made him slim but strong, and he can easily drive his unique spear deep into the chest of an enemy and keep fighting without getting tired.
All of this, along with his skill and speed, makes him a dangerous opponent for anyone, even Thorfinn.
10. Gardar
Gardar looks scary because he is so big and has so many scars. His story, though, is a sad one.
Gardar used to be a Viking warrior with a wife and a son who loved him, but when he became a slave, he was separated from them. He promises to make up with his family and take them away.
Gardar goes to Ketil’s house to save his family, but Snake’s mercenaries and Snake himself are there to stop him.
He kills a few hired guns, but he can’t beat Snake. In the end, he dies because of the serious injuries he got when he met Snake.
9. Hild
Hild is a lot like Thorfinn from the War arc in a lot of ways. Like Thorfinn, she wants to get revenge for the deaths of her family.
But her plan for getting back at Thorfinn is to kill him, since he killed her father.
Hild fights with a crossbow, which is an unusual weapon that works well for her when she is fighting on her own turf.
When they first meet in the forest, Thorfinn is unarmed, but she uses the element of surprise to defeat him.
8. Bjorn
Askeladd’s group was led by Bjorn, who was the second-in-command. His style of fighting was like the Viking way of fighting, which was to use berserker mushrooms.
When Bjorn was sober, he rarely fought. He ate berserker mushrooms to go berserk. In his berserk state, he killed almost all of Canute’s friends.
But Thor wasn’t hurt by his berserker mode. During the War arc, Askeladd killed him in the end.
7. Wulf
Wulf’s official place in Canute’s Royal Guard shows how strong he really is. Canute’s head Thegn and teacher is Wulf.
During the Slave arc, Wulf took part in the battle at Ketil Farm. He didn’t fight right away, but when Thorgil tried to kill Canute, he had to step in.
He was able to hold Thorgil down for a few seconds, but he didn’t have enough strength to hold him down for long. When Thorgil took out Wulf’s eye with his bare hands, Wulf had no choice but to let him go.
However, this incident doesn’t deter Wulf. During the Baltic Sea War, he works as a personal guard for Thorkell. This shows that he isn’t out of the game yet.
6. Thorgil
Even Thorgil’s father is scared of how cruel Thorgil can be. Thorgil, like Garm and Thorkell, likes to fight and kill people.
Thorgil used to be Canute’s Thegn, which explains why he is so good at fighting. During the battle between Canute and Ketil, he kills several Vikings before they can do anything. Even Canute’s guards have their arms cut off by him.
But his only weakness is that he can’t defend himself well against attacks or counterattacks he didn’t see coming. At the end of the Slave arc, Canute blocks his sneak attack because of this weakness.
5. Snake
In Vinland Saga, Snake shows up for the first time in the Slave arc. He is in charge of Ketil’s farm guards, who keep the farm safe from harm.
In the beginning, no one knows who Snake is. But it turns out later that he used to be a Varangian Guard for the Roman Emperors.
If you don’t know what a Varangian Guard is, think of someone who works as a bodyguard for an emperor. This means that Snake has a lot more power than he seems to have.
During the Slave arc, Snake used his fighting skills to save Thorfinn and other slaves from harsh punishments.
Thorfinn thinks that Snake is even stronger than Old Askeladd. Snake is as fast as Thorfinn when it comes to speed.
4. Askeladd
Askeladd is not like the other Vikings because he plans his battles well and has a very smart brain.
When he puts his analytical skills and sword skills together, he becomes a very dangerous opponent.
As a child, Askeladd was so good with his sword that he could kill seasoned warriors like his father with ease.
He even beats the berserker Bjorn in battle by killing him in the end. In many battles, he kills Ragnar, who was Canute’s bodyguard, and a number of other Vikings.
Thors had to use some strategy to stop Askeladd’s sneak attacks when they fought when they were both at their best.
Also, an experienced Viking like Thorfinn couldn’t beat Askeladdin in a fight while Askeladd was still alive.
3. Thorfinn
Since the beginning, Thorfinn has grown a lot as a fighter and as a Viking. After fighting many people twice his age, he is finally getting better at fighting.
Thorfinn’s fighting style is based on quick, deadly attacks instead of big blows. He uses his quickness to avoid his opponents and hit them in the most important places to knock them out. Garm is easy for him to beat because he blocks his quick spear attack.
Thorfinn can also last a long time. During their first battle, Thorkell throws him around like a toy, but he still lives. He also takes almost 100 blows from Drott, who is well-known for killing bears.
2. Thorkell
Thorkell, also known as Thorkell the Tall or Thorkell the Unbeatable, is a Viking who works for King Canute and is one of the strongest people still alive.
Thorkell is known for his incredible strength. He doesn’t even have to work hard to beat strong animals like bears.
During the War arc, he lifts a boulder that weighs several tonnes, which is a very impressive feat. Even though he lost two fingers, it doesn’t bother him much.
Even though he is very tall, he is very fast and has good reflexes. During their first fight in Chapter 19, Thorfinn could barely avoid his quick punches.
He can also keep up with Garm, who is known for being quick on his feet.
1. Thors Snorresson
Thors Snorresson may be a pacifist, but no one in Vinland Saga has even come close to matching his strength and fighting skills.
Thors can kill everyone on an enemy ship by fighting them hand-to-hand. He beats Thorkell, who was armed, with just his hands. He is the strongest character in Vinland Saga because he can fight for a long time and avoid multiple attacks at once.
Thors never lost a fight until the day he died. Askeladd was able to kill Thors, but only because he did it in a sneaky way.
