Gengar is one of the strongest Ghost-type Pokemon in the series. It was also one of the first Ghost-type Pokemon to be released in Generation 1.

10. Giga Drain, Thunder, Hypnosis, Hex

Toxic “badly poisons” its target. Poisoned Pokemon take more and more damage with each turn. Both the Sludge Bomb and the Gunk Shot do a lot of damage and have a chance of poisoning the target.
When used on a Pokemon that has been poisoned, Venoshock does 125 times as much damage.

Dream Eater also heals the user for 50% of the damage done, but it hits much harder than Giga Drain, giving a better healing boost.

Gengar is a top-tier Pokemon in Go. Its best feature is that it can be used in all three of the main leagues in the Go Battle League, does well in PvE, and has a Mega Evolution.
If you want to use Gengar in PvP fights, you should focus on the Great League and Ultra League. There, Gengar can beat Togekiss and Melmetal, and its low-cost charged moves can easily take down shields.
Gengar can be used in the Master League if you have enough XL Candy, but its low maximum CP means you’d be better off focused on the higher-ranking Ghost/Dragon-type Legendary Giratina in its altered form if you can.
