Moshi moshi Otakus! Welcome back to MOW. Today we will dive into the world of Solo Leveling! Stay tuned for more blogs.
I’ve come across numerous books, manga, and webcomics that have truly captivated me, but only a handful have truly resonated with me.
The type of stories that occupy my mind day and night.
I often find myself pondering it during moments of leisure, engaging in conversations with all my friends about it, persuading others to give it a read, acquiring artwork, amassing various editions, and so forth.
Even in the darkest depths, far from the light, I find solace in reading fanfiction.
And when there’s nothing to read, I enjoy writing my own content.
It’s quite rare for this to occur.
Currently, Solo Leveling has captured my attention like few other fandoms have.
I dedicated a significant amount of time to thoroughly revisiting all 110 chapters of the first season, staying up until 2 am and completing the task within a span of two days. After catching up on the webcomic, I decided to delve into the web novel.
Once I completed that, I eagerly purchased the English physical copy to add to my growing collection.
Solo Leveling has become my latest obsession for a compelling reason, and it has firmly established itself as my current favorite webcomic!
Solo Leveling: Info
Solo Leveling is a Korean web novel written by Chu-gong and later adapted into a webcomic illustrated by Jang Sung-rak (aka Dubu).
In a world plagued by the emergence of portals filled with menacing abyssal creatures, posing a grave threat to humanity, certain individuals have harnessed extraordinary abilities to combat these otherworldly menaces.
This group of individuals is commonly referred to as “hunters”. Their task involves entering the gate and conquering the dungeon by defeating the creatures that lie in wait.
The story revolves around Sung Jin-Woo, an E-rank hunter who is initially considered the weakest in the world. However, he embarks on a journey to become the strongest hunter in the world.
What makes Solo Leveling so awesome?
The characters. Jin-Woo begins his journey as the weakest hunter in the world, only slightly stronger than the average human. However, he possesses an abundance of heart and unwavering determination.
He persevered through the most challenging dungeons to support his family, taking on the responsibility of caring for his younger sister in the absence of their father and with their mother in the hospital.
He is driven by a strong desire to safeguard the well-being of his loved ones.
He’s a simple character with a charming lack of grand ambitions, which adds to his appeal.
He faces seemingly insurmountable obstacles and conquers one challenge after another, ultimately evolving into a formidable Shadow Monarch. Underdog stories are incredibly satisfying.
The side characters are captivating too, ranging from the diverse guild masters to the adversaries. I absolutely adore Jin-Woo’s shadow soldiers, Igris and Beru! Igris serves as his initial shadow, a noble knight, while Beru stands as his most powerful shadow in the webcomic.
It’s quite fascinating to learn that this shadow general has a penchant for historical dramas and enjoys reenacting them alongside his liege.
The unexpected humor is a delightful addition!
A delightful fusion of RPG games and reality. If you’re someone who loves RPG/MMORPG games, this one is sure to bring you a lot of enjoyment.
The webcomic features a leveling system that resembles that of video games.
Jin-Woo receives various quests that help him progress, such as daily training or taking down powerful bosses, which contribute to his growth.
He is quite the charmer in the real world.
Through learning and honing his abilities, mastering various weapons, and progressing through the leveling system, the protagonist experiences significant growth in Solo Leveling.
He usually takes on bosses single-handedly, relying on his shadow army that he controls.
The artwork. It’s absolutely amazing. Each page is visually captivating. The art has a sleek and modern aesthetic, utilizing color in a purposeful manner to convey a sense of power.
The artist’s choice of a minimalist style perfectly captures Jin-Woo’s character. The bold, flat black tones used to illustrate him give off a sense of depth and darkness. Boundless and immense, with a timeless authority.
The way he is depicted at the start of the story is quite distinct: vibrant colors, gentle lines, and intricate details. However, his current portrayal as the Shadow Monarch is characterized by sleek black tones, with a single contrasting color that effectively showcases his immense power.
I believe that the lack of specifics in his current state indicates how he sacrificed aspects of his identity as he grew more powerful.
The simplicity complements his newfound calm demeanor.
Everything is intentionally designed.
Solo Leveling is filled with exhilarating action sequences that will keep you on the edge of your seat.
It begins with a captivating introduction, drawing you into its dark and immersive world where humans and monsters clash in a battle for the world’s destiny.
This series is absolutely captivating, with its stunning visuals and compelling story. It’s so addictive that you’ll find yourself staying up late into the night, unable to stop reading.
