Major World of Warcraft Leader Gets an Unexpected Makeover in The War Within

The former king of the dwarves and current Speaker of Azeroth, Magni Bronzebeard, is turned back into flesh and blood during the events of World of Warcraft: The War Within.

In the fifth zone of The War Within, the Ringing Deeps, this major event takes place during the World of Warcraft story campaign.

The War Within is the first part of The Worldsoul Saga, a new storyline that will span multiple expansions in World of Warcraft.

Alleria, Anduin, and Xal’atath will all get new modes in World of Warcraft, which will also add a tonne of new characters.

However, another major character from the history of World of Warcraft is also going through a raft change. Alongside his daughter Moira and his grandson Dagran, Magni Bronzebeard, the diamond-skinned Speaker of Azeroth, plays a major role in The War Within.

During the story in the Ringing Deeps zone, Magni helps the Earthen confront one of their leaders who has been tricked into working with WoW’s main bad guy, Xal’atath.

At the very end, Magni almost dies while trying to clean up the mess in an old Titan machine. He manages to save the day, but in the process, he turns into flesh and blood.

Who is Magni Bronzebeard in World of Warcraft?

  • Magni is the eldest Bronzebeard brother, and former king of the Dwarves.
  • In Cataclysm, he turned into a diamond statue and was believed to be dead.
  • He awoke four in-game years later in Legion as the Speaker of Azeroth, and played a major role in both it and Battle for Azeroth.
  • In The War Within, Azeroth has stopped speaking to him, causing him to become jaded, and his diamond skin has grown dull.
  • In the Ringing Deeps storyline, Magni nearly dies to purge void corruption from an ancient machine integral to making new Earthen in World of Warcraft, and is turned back to flesh and blood.

It’s clear that Magni had a rough come during World of Warcraft’s time skip in Dragonflight in the early parts of The War Within.

He has stopped speaking with Azeroth, and he now despises his role as Speaker. However, some fans wonder if Azeroth might have felt bad about taking Magni away from his family and imposing the role on him.

They think that she started to distance herself from Magni to give him time to get back in touch with his family, which is easier for him to do now that he is flesh and blood.

The War Within alpha has tested two of World of Warcraft’s four zones so far, giving players a look at a good chunk of the expansion’s story.

After the alpha builds, the beta, and finally the full release later this year, WoW: The War Within fans will have to wait to see what else is in store for them.
