HIDIVE will stream Jellyfish Can’t Swim in the Night

HIDIVE revealed on Monday its plans to stream Doga Kobo’s new original television anime series Jellyfish Can’t Swim in the Night (Yoru no Kurage wa Oyogenai) for the spring 2024 season.

The company plans to showcase the North American premiere of the anime’s first two episodes at Anime Boston 2024 on March 29.

Jellyfish Can’t Swim in the Night is set to debut on April 6 on the TOKYO MX and BS11 channels at 25:00 JST (effectively, April 7 at 1:00 a.m. JST, or April 6 at noon EDT).

On April 7, Kansai TV and AT-X channels will air the anime, and on April 8, HTB Hokkaido TV will follow. Additional broadcasters are in the works.

  • Miku Itō portrays Mahiru Kōzuki, Rie Takahashi plays Kano Yamanouchi, Miyu Tomita is Kiwi Watase, and Miyuri Shimabukuro is Mei “Kim Anouk” Takanashi.
  • Sumire Uesaka plays the role of Miiko, while Miho Okasaki portrays Mero Setō.
  • Yukina Shutō portraying the character Momoko Yanagi
  • Sally Amaki portraying Akari Suzumura
  • The story of a group of girls immersed in creativity will unfold in Shibuya.

JELEE is responsible for the original work, with Ryohei Takeshita (Eromanga Sensei) directing the series at Doga Kobo. Popman3580 is the original character designer, with Junichirō Taniguchi (Magia Record: Puella Magi Madoka Magica Side Story, Touken Ranbu: Hanamaru) adapting those designs for animation. Yūki Yaku, the author of the Bottom-tier Character Tomozaki light novel, is writing and overseeing the series scripts.

KanoeRana sings the anime’s opening theme song, “Irodori” (coloring), while female singer Anna Tsurushima performs the ending theme song, “Ichi-nichi wa 25-jikan” (A Day Is 25 Hours). 40mP, a musician, creates an insert song for the artist “JELEE” in the anime’s plot. Haramichan, a popular pop pianist and YouTuber, is responsible for the piano performances featured in the series.

A manga adaptation by Niko Fujii will launch on Kodansha’s Magazine Pocket app in April
