Nintendo Survey Hints at New RPGs from the Company

According to a recent survey, Nintendo is already planning to create more role-playing games.

Nintendo appears to be currently generating concepts for new role-playing games that will base themselves on the Super Mario franchise.

Nearly a decade has passed since RPGs featuring Nintendo’s mascot first appeared. Since 2020, three such games have been released on the market: the highly regarded Super Mario RPG remake, Paper Mario: The Origami King, and Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope.

A remake of Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door will soon reach the Switch, which is another such title.

A recent survey that Nintendo sent to some of its customers suggested that the company is already thinking about what comes next.

Fans can vote on their favorite elements from the Mario, Luigi, and Paper Mario series, among other series, in the questionnaire shared by Twitter user Aspharon (via ComicBook).

Additionally, it asks fans if they would rather see familiar or new faces in Super Mario RPGs by asking them a specific question. According to inferred information, the Japanese role-playing game is presently debating where to take its next group of games.

Since Nintendo has approved 20 such titles since Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars was first released to widespread acclaim and player adoration, the idea that even more RPGs based on the Super Mario IP are in the works seems well within the realm of possibility.

Additionally, the RPG spin-offs of the company have not separated by more than three years since the 1990s.

The recently released survey may also encourage fans to believe that Nintendo is still committed to the Mario and Luigi franchises.

Although there have been two remakes of this RPG franchise since the Switch launched, neither of them was ever released as a 3DS exclusive and instead ended up on the well-liked hybrid system.

Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam, now approaching its tenth anniversary, was the last original try in the franchise.

The year 2024 is predicted to see a lot of Switch remakes, much like the end of the 3DS life cycle was mostly devoted to reimaginings of some classic Nintendo titles.

Some industry watchers anticipate that Nintendo will wait to release many original AAA projects until after the release of the Switch 2, which is anticipated to occur sometime in March 2025.

Any RPGs that Nintendo may be working on but hasn’t yet revealed are therefore likely to be exclusive to the Switch 2. The remake of Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door will debut on May 23, in the mean time.
