Tears of the Kingdom streamer spends six hours trying to beat the game without using key items, only to be beaten by a closed door

It’s impossible to beat The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom without using key items, as one player in the game discovered.

Since Tears of the Kingdom’s release, players have approached the game in a variety of ways, some rushing through it in record time and others using Link’s newly discovered abilities to make all sorts of strange and wonderful devices to explore Hyrule.

So far, one player has tried to finish the game without using any key items. This means that many items and abilities, like the paraglider and the Purah Pad, are no longer useful.

SmallAnt, the player, posted their attempt on YouTube. The video shows that things get tough pretty quickly when one of the first things they have to do is get the Purah Pad, which is a key item.

The streamer defiantly says as they put the device away and move on to the next goal without using it, “The game is trying to get me to cheat right away, and I will not do it.”

Unfortunately for the player, this challenge means that they can’t use abilities like Ultrahand, Ascend, or Fuse. This makes it much harder to move around Hyrule and finish shrines.

Still, they get through a lot of situations where they would normally need to use one key item or another by using strategic placement of bombs, speed potions, and the infinite height glitch, along with some smart thinking.

Finally making it across the Great Sky Island, bad luck strikes 6 hours and 22 minutes in when they reach a door in the Temple of Time that is locked.

SmallAnt needs another Heart Container to open the door. The nearby Goddess Statue will trade him four Light of Blessings for it.

Light of Blessings are key items, and getting the Heart Container means you have to use them, which means you failed the challenge.

The player says, “I think this is over.” “So, with the current knowledge, it’s impossible to beat Tears of the Kingdom with no key items.”

They may not have been successful, but the ways they complete the challenges on Great Sky Island are truly brilliant. The full video is definitely worth watching, though it is annoying that they tend to skip over the thousands of height glitches that are needed for the challenge.
