Rumor: New Doom Game May Be Revealed Soon

There is new evidence that the next Doom game may be coming out soon. Doom Eternal, the last game in the franchise, launched four years ago, giving developer id Software enough time to make an announcement about the next game.

When the Doom series came out in 1993, it was a big deal because it was one of the first games to use 3D graphics.

Doom, the 2016 installment of the id Software franchise, was a huge hit thanks to its “rip and tear” gameplay and great heavy metal music by Mick Gordon.

The next game was Doom Eternal, which came out in 2020 and doubled the amount of money it made in its first weekend. The Ancient Gods Parts One and Two, two DLCs for Eternal, were released by developer Id in 2021.

People are curious about what id Software has been working on since then because it’s been a long time. According to a leak from 2023, the studio was working on a new Doom game called Doom Year Zero, but this has not been confirmed.

The reveal of ID’s next game, however, may be imminent, according to recent clues. Some supposedly inside information about the Xbox business was recently published by The Verge.

At the end of the report, it said, “Microsoft will be banking on some new game announcements lifting the Doom around Xbox.”

The June Xbox Games Showcase May Hold All the Answers

Although the sentence clearly refers to the upcoming announcements at the Xbox Games Showcase on June 9, the word “Doom” being capitalised and italicised makes it seem like the next Doom game will be shown at the show.

Furthermore, the recent discovery of a Zenimax trademark for a game called “IDKFA” has added fuel to the fire of speculation among Doom fans, since IDKFA is a cheat code from the original Doom games from the 1990s.

The surrounding evidence, as well as the four or so years since the last Doom game, do support the speculation, even though trademarks aren’t always reliable indicators of impending game reveals.

With their Doom games, developer Id Software has always pushed the limits of technology, but one of their most famous features is how well they work with both large and small hardware.

Porting the original Doom game from 1993 to a lawnmower is the best example of this. With releases on every platform, from the portable Nintendo Switch to the latest PS5, Doom Eternal served as an excellent example of this.

As usual, the next Doom game will probably only work on modern hardware, and it might only be available on Xbox and PC. It will be interesting to see if it continues this tradition.
