Horses can not only be a fast way to travel in Tamriel’s vast expanses, but they can also be loyal allies when in danger.
When you buy a horse, you get access to a practical way to travel fast while carrying a lot of stuff. You can also use that trusty horse to run away from unwanted enemies.
For Skyrim players, this guide will teach them how to call a horse to them. There are a few workarounds that players can try since doing this isn’t as easy as one might think.
How to Call/Summon a Horse in Skyrim
No function in Skyrim supports calling your horse. Some ways exist. The quickest way to get your horse is to fast travel to an outdoor location.
If you own the Hearthfire DLC and bought a horse, you can find it at your stable.
Others, like Assassin’s Creed, have a whistling mechanic that makes your horse charge you.
Unfortunately, Skyrim does not support those joyful moments, but you can become a werewolf.
Fast Travel
To travel to a different location, the first and simplest method is to simply fast travel. That way, the horse will automatically teleport with you to your destination.
Given that you cannot summon a horse without using fast travel, it is worth noting that this method is not the best one.
Therefore, using fast travel to summon a horse is not the best option if you are on a mountain and only need to get to a higher level quickly.
Summon Arvak
Arvak ownership would be a more effective and efficient method of summoning a horse. If you have access to the Soul Cairn as a result of the Dawnguard DLC, you can obtain Arvak, a skeleton horse.
You must visit the Soul Cairn after completing the Chasing Echoes quest in order to obtain Arvak as a mount. You can find Arvak’s Skull here and learn more about the ghostly, spectral horse alongside it.
You can then use the 136-magicka Summon Arvak spell, which you can find in the Conjuration menu.
You can summon a horse wherever you want in the open world by using this spell.
Use Mods
A final alternative to calling your horse is to download the ‘Call Your Horse’ mod from Nexus Mods.
Similar to the previous option, this mod allows players to use a spell that will summon a horse.
After installing this mod, you can summon a horse that you own, and what’s even better is that this spell costs nothing, so you can use it as much as you want.
Similar to the previous option, you can only use this spell in the open world because the horse will not come to you if you are in a building or cave.
This mod does not conflict with any in-game mechanics, so installing it shouldn’t cause any problems.
