Call of Duty Competitor XDefiant Finally Has a Release Date

The new release date for XDefiant, Ubisoft’s Call of Duty rival, has been revealed. Fans of Ubisoft were confused and angry when XDefiant was first revealed in 2021.

After several playtests and a beta last summer, people’s opinions of the FPS have grown. It had good gunplay and fun combat, but it wasn’t as polished as Call of Duty.

After getting good reviews, the game had more delays, one in October and another in March of this year. This meant that the game’s future was uncertain.

While XDefiant is another FPS from Ubisoft, it is different from Rainbow Six Siege in that it aims to offer a multiplayer experience similar to Call of Duty.

XDefiant, directed by former Infinity Ward producer Mark Rubin at Ubisoft San Francisco, combines the worlds of Far Cry, Watch Dogs, Splinter Cell, The Diversion, and Ghost Recon, allowing fans to play as members of Libertad, Dedsec, Echelon, the Phantoms, and the Cleaners, each with a unique vision of characters and abilities.

The maps in XDefiant also take place in important locations from these well-known Ubisoft franchises.

The final release date for XDefiant is now set for May 21, which is hopefully full. Exclusively through Ubisoft Connect, Ubisoft’s Call of Duty competitor will come to Xbox Series X and S, PlayStation 5, and PC.

At launch, players can expect five game modes, 14 maps, 24 weapons, and 44 attachments to play with. By completing in-game missions, players will need to unlock several characters from the game, including the entire Dedsec faction.

Given how popular online first-person shooters are on those platforms, it’s strange that XDefiant seems to be avoiding a Steam team and Epic Games Store launch at first. No matter what, it will be interesting to see how the seasons of XDefiant go.

Players can anticipate a new season every three months, according to Ubisoft, who confirmed this. It will be interesting to see if they live up to the fan and player expectations.

Also, Ubisoft’s XDefiant Year 1 roadmap says that each season will have a new faction. It is unknown what these factions will be or what games they will be from, but groups like the modernised Assassin Brotherhood from Assassin’s Creed or Team Rainbow from Rainbow Six would fit right in with XDefiant’s roster.

FPS fans can now get ready to dive into the world of all things Ubisoft on May 21 when XDefiant is released. There will be six weeks of pre-season before Season 1 starts.

It will be a great opportunity for Ubisoft to try and win over Call of Duty players to XDefiant before Season 4 of Call of Duty comes out on May 21. Season 3 of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 and Warzone will end on May 21.
