Although crossplay is a crucial component of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, not everyone enjoys the idea of competing against players using an Xbox or PlayStation console on a personal computer.
To everyone’s relief, the developers at Activision have made it simple for all gaming platforms to disable this feature.
Even though crossplay has brought about positive changes in gaming, the last thing that any gamer wants is to have an unfair advantage.
Aim-assist is not something that users of controllers want to experience at the hands of a gamer using a large mousepad, and neither are gamers using personal computers.
It is a valid complaint, and there is a solution to the problem.
One of the most beneficial developments that has occurred in the realm of multiplayer games throughout the past few years is the widespread implementation of crossplay, which enables players to interact with other individuals who are playing on a different platform.
It has been a hugely good move across the industry, whether it be to allow you to connect to a larger variety of gamers or just to allow you to play with your pals across console and PC lines.
This particular mechanic is also included in the video game Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, but not everyone may wish to make advantage of it.
For a variety of reasons, like the fact that players on the PC may not wish to contend with the game’s powerful Aim Assist or the fact that console players do not wish to compete against players who use the mouse and keyboard, there are at least a few reasons why you might want to restrict yourself to just your platform. Crossplay may be turned off, which is a fortunate development.

The section of the game’s settings that contains the instructions for disabling the Crossplay feature can be found here.
Choose the “Account & Network” section from the list of options that appears when you navigate to the settings tab on your device.
In this section of your options, the Crossplay option will be the first item on the list of settings that may be edited once you have entered this section.
You can switch between having the functionality on and off from this location.
Simply clicking on the option until it says “Off” will allow you to select whether or not you wish to compete against other players on other platforms.
- Once MW2 has started, go to menu in the top right-hand corner
- Keep going right until you find settings
- Scroll down to “Account and Network.”
- Change “Crossplay” to off
- Restart your game to make sure it’s kicked into gear
How to turn off crossplay on Xbox in Modern Warfare 2
If you are playing Modern Warfare 2 on Xbox, there is currently no in-game option to disable crossplay.
We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.
Nevertheless, there is a method that is not associated with the game itself, and that is by going into the settings of the console.
Initially, you will need to navigate to the dashboard and engage the Xbox button.
At this point, you have the option to select ‘Settings.’ Proceed with the following steps:
- Press the home button on your Xbox controller.
- Head to Settings and then go to General.
- Press Online Safety & Family on the screen and head to Privacy & Online Safety.
- Head to Xbox Privacy and move to View Details & Customize.
- Go to Communication & Multiplayer and then move to Join Cross-network Play.
- Set Join Cross-network Play on “Block.”
- Hard quit CoD: MW2 and restart your Xbox.
After you have reloaded MW2 and selected the multiplayer option, you will be presented with a box that asks you to input your Microsoft password.
When you have finished entering your password, you will be presented with two choices on the following screen: you can either enable crossplay or cancel it.
If you click the “cancel” button, you will be able to search for online games that do not support crossplay modes.
After following this workaround, players have been able to locate online lobbies; nevertheless, many players are dissatisfied with how hard the method is,
and they are hopeful that the developers would offer an option to switch crossplay on and off within the Middle of the Road 2 menu on Xbox.
However, it is currently unknown whether or not Infinity Ward intends to include such a choice for players on the Xbox and their personal computers.
