Every Pokemon Nature & The Stats They Change

Let’s delve into the fascinating world of Pokemon nature and how they can impact your Pokemon’s personality and stats.

Every person is unique in their own way. Our individuality is molded by our DNA, personality, and life experiences, making us truly one-of-a-kind.

Game Freak has made various efforts to ensure that every Pokemon feels distinctively personal to you: IVs and EVs play important roles in a Pokemon’s development. IVs represent their genetic code, while EVs reflect their life experiences.

So, how would a Pokemon nature be characterised? This is the characteristic of every Pokemon from Generation 3 onwards that can be found on the summary screen.

The way Pokemon nature tries to give them their own distinct personalities, making the whole experience more immersive, special, and emotionally impactful.

Your friend might also have a Charizard, but their Charizard is not as laid-back as yours. Nevertheless, they can have an impact on your Pokemon’s performance during battles.

What Are Pokemon Natures?

In Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire, a Nature is assigned to each Pokemon as their unique “personality” when they are encountered.

There are 25 unique Natures that a Pokemon can possess, which provide insight into their temperament, like being Quirky or Naive.

Raising Pokemon can become quite complex due to the fact that most Natures will boost one stat while lowering another.

Specifically, they have the ability to boost one stat by ten percent, while also reducing another stat by the same amount. In addition, they have a significant influence on the flavour preferences for their Pokeblocks and Poffins.

There is a direct connection between stats and flavors. All Natures that boost the same stat will share a similar flavor, while those that lower the same stat will have a different taste.

In addition, there are five neutral Natures that do not have any impact on stats or flavour tastes.

Ever since Pokemon HeartGold and SoulSilver, players have been able to easily check out a Pokemon’s preferred and disliked flavours right from the Summary screen.

On the Pokemon’s stat chart, the stat that has increased is shown in red, while the stat that has decreased is shown in blue.

Choosing The Ideal Pokemon Nature

2 ideal pokemon nature Every Pokemon Nature & The Stats They Change

Each Pokemon Nature possesses unique strengths and weaknesses, allowing you to maximize its potential by obtaining or breeding a Pokemon Nature that is favorable.

In general, it’s ideal to have a Nature that boosts your Pokemon’s most advantageous stat while reducing one that doesn’t have much impact on how you utilize the Pokemon in battles.

On the other hand, you might consider enhancing a Pokemon’s vulnerable area.

When it comes to Natures, it’s important to consider how you plan to use the Pokemon since there isn’t always a “one size fits all” approach.

Consideration can also be given to a Pokemon’s abilities, like Azumarill’s impressive Huge Power. However, the primary factors to consider when determining a suitable Nature are the Pokemon’s base stats and movepool.

Example PokemonPreferred NaturesNotes
GalladeAdamantGallade’s Attack stat is significantly boosted by Adamant, making it a valuable choice as it reduces Special Attack. However, it is important to be cautious with its Defense, as it can be somewhat delicate. Being quick is crucial for surpassing your adversaries and striking with precision.
JollyJolly boosts Speed while sacrificing Special Attack. Gallade can take advantage of this Speed boost to maximise its already impressive Attack stat, or to utilise Swords Dance early on and enhance its Attack by two stages.

Guide To Altering A Pokemon Nature

Before Sword & Shield, the Nature of your Pokemon would remain unchanged. If you want to get the Nature you want, you’ll need to breed your Pokemon.

On the other hand, in Generation 8, Nature Mints were introduced, making it a breeze to alter the Nature of your Pokemon.

The true essence of your Pokemon remains unchanged when using Nature Mints. Instead, the stat effects align with the selected Nature, while the Nature displayed in the Pokemon’s Summary remains consistent.

Every Nature has its own corresponding Mint, with the exception of the five neutral Natures. However, you can still find the Serious Mint, which is the only neutral Mint option.

Just select the Mint that matches your Pokemon’s Nature and apply it to them. The Mints are single-use items, so if you want to change the Natures of multiple Pokemon, you’ll need to buy several of them.
