Goku was an unusual sight running around with assault rifles. Then the game itself has seen a lot of changes since then which include regular updates of skins and other accessories.
But over time, Epic Games have also made some alterations to gameplay mechanics and modes apart from visual upgrades.
The Trios mode was removed, leading to a heated debate among fans as it was their most loved update. So what prompted Epic Games to take it down?
What is Fortnite Trios mode?
In Fortnite’s Trios mode, groups of three players engage in a battle royale format against other groups. Each team is made up of three players who cooperate to stay alive and take out other teams until only their team remains.
Why Did Fortnite Remove Trios?
The Trios mode was eliminated from Fortnite in May 2023 with an update that came without an announcement from Epic Games.
The fan base expressed their dissatisfaction, voicing differences with the company’s apparent lack of consideration for this as a major move.
Fortnite released a statement on the next update a month later.
To “minimize queue times and maintain matchmaking quality for all players,” the Fortnite Team stated that they had decided to remove Trios at the same time as they launched ranked play.
This justification made sense because the game and its users wouldn’t gain anything by arbitrarily eliminating a well-liked feature.
It’s interesting to note that the Fortnite Team revealed the reintroduction of Trio for the non-ranked Battle Royale and Zero Build modes in the same announcement.
In the end, they even brought back ranked Trios, proving that the mode was short-lived.
The removal of Trio caused a heated reaction from the Fortnite community at first, but their reinstatement reduced hostilities.
However, a lot of players were irritated by the Fortnite Team’s delayed response.
Will Trios mode return in the future?
This mode may reappear in the future, though this is not confirmed. In Fortnite, vaulted content typically indicates that it’s being kept for potential future returns.
After being vaulted, many weapons—especially ones associated with particular seasons—have reappeared. It’s uncertain when these things will return, though, given the recent addition of Ranked Mode.
