How To Get Chien-Pao in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet

Pokemon Scarlet & Violet takes the usual Pokemon training experience to new heights by adding the colorful area of Paldea.

You will become the best trainer in this area while catching hundreds of Pokemon with your friends in a place full of surprises, secrets, and challenges.

Chien-Pao is one of the rarest pokemon. It is part of a famous legendary group called the Treasures of Ruin.

This icy sabretooth will be waiting for you behind a locked door, and you’ll have to go to a few different places to free it.

Here’s all the information you need about it!

Who Is Chien-Pao?

Chien-Pao is one of the four legendary items known as the Treasures of Ruin. It is also called the “Sword of Ruin.” This snow feline was made from the hatred of people who died by the sword a long time ago.

It took the form of a pokemon and was brought to Paldea by an ancient kingdom from another land. It was locked behind a chained gate as a precaution against its dark powers.

But it’s still waiting for a master who wants to set it free. If you know where to look, you can add this powerful Pokemon to your team. Here’s what to do to catch it.

Where to find Chien-Pao?

Chien-Pao is hidden behind the Yellow Shrine on the west side of Paldea, which is more specifically West Province (Area One).

It is on the most western point of the area, about halfway up a cliff.

To get into the shrine, you’ll need to be able to climb with Miraidon, or at least glide at the right time if you’re good at flying.

How to open the shrine

To get into the shrine, you have to pull up all eight of the Yellow Ominous Stakes.

All of these things are in the western parts of Paldea.

How To Obtain Chien-Pao?

Before going into fight, you should turn off auto-save and instead save from the menu. This means that if you fail, you can just reload and try again.

Chien-Pao is a cross between a snow leopard and a sabre-tooth tiger. It is a Dark/Ice type, and its ability, “Sword of Ruin,” lowers your team’s Defense number.

Again, Fire-type moves and Rock-type attacks aren’t good here because you don’t want to make Chien-Pao fall.

Dragon-type Pokemon are also a bad choice here, since Ice will be very useful. Bring your best Pokémon that can’t be hurt by moves of the Ice and Dark types.

Here, Ultra and Timer Balls will help you. If you’re feeling lucky, try a Quick Ball at the beginning of the fight. If it’s nighttime, try a Dusk Ball.

You’ll have one of the four Ruinous Pokémon if you can catch it.

To get Chien-Pao, you have to free eight stakes that are spread across the Paldea map in different areas. Most of them are easy to spot, but some are harder to find.

Here, we’ll tell you how to find them.
