In Diablo 4’s Season of the Infernal Hordes, the Beast in the Ice has seen a few changes, transitioning from the Nightmare Dungeon system to a dedicated pinnacle boss.
This makes it a prime target for farming Unique, especially on Tormented difficulty, which offers better odds for Mythic Unique.
Before diving in, though, you’ll need to know how to summon the Beast and handle its mechanics. Let’s break down everything you need to know.
How to Summon the Beast in the Ice?
In this season, Blizzard adjusted the summoning requirements for the Beast. You can find it in the Glacial Fissure dungeon in Fractured Peaks, south of Kyovashad. No Nightmare Dungeon Sigils are needed anymore; you can walk right in and use the summoning altar.
Here’s what you’ll need to summon the Beast:
- Normal Mode:
- 9x Distilled Fear
- Tormented Mode:
- 1x Stygian Stone
- 27x Distilled Fear
Distilled Fear is typically dropped by Elites and Treasure Goblins, but you can also obtain it from Helltide monsters and Whisper Caches. The Stygian Stone is only required for the Tormented version, which can be acquired through Pit runs, the Infernal Hordes resource chest, or the season journey rewards.
Summoning the Tormented Beast sets its level to 200, significantly boosting its damage. If you can defeat this version, you’ll earn 5x more loot, making it highly rewarding for capable builds.
Beast in the Ice – Boss Fight Mechanics
The Beast in the Ice is a massive demon wielding an icy blade, dealing Cold damage. It’s essential to max out your Cold Resistance and Armor before facing it.
Phase 1: Initial Assault
- The fight starts with the Beast crashing into the center of the arena, swinging its blade.
- After a few seconds, it will summon a wind barrier, trapping you in a small circle. Be prepared to dodge incoming attacks.
Invulnerability Phases
- Each time you reduce the Beast’s health by a quarter, it will fly up, triggering an invulnerability phase.
- The floor will light up with icy telegraphs; you need to stand in the safe zones to avoid getting hit.
- On Normal difficulty, you can tank these hits, but on Tormented, each hit applies a Tormented debuff that increases incoming damage.
- At 3 stacks of the debuff, most players will get one-shot unless you have an extremely tanky build.
Dealing Damage
- After dodging the ice attacks, the Beast will crash back down, giving you a window to deal damage.
- High burst DPS builds can potentially skip future phases by melting the boss’ health quickly.
- If your DPS is lower, prepare to repeat the dodging mechanics for each quarter of the Beast’s health.
Beast in the Ice – Loot and Drop Table
Defeating the Beast in the Ice offers excellent rewards, especially on Tormented difficulty:
- Dedicated Unique Drops: Each kill has a high chance to drop a Unique item specific to your class.
- Mythic Unique: All pinnacle bosses have a 1.5% chance to drop a Mythic Unique. On Tormented difficulty, this chance is multiplied by 5, giving you multiple opportunities to score rare items like the coveted Harlequin Crest.
