Why does Tanjiro’s scar change? Why does he have a Scar?

The scar on Tanjiro’s face is not hidden, as it is a key part of how he looks. I’m sure your sharp eyes have noticed that Tanjiro’s scar keeps changing slightly as the series goes on.

No one can sleep until they know why Tanjiro’s scar keeps changing. It’s a mysterious event meant to make the story more interesting.

Now that the manga is done, Koyoharu Gotoge has given us answers to our questions and given some of the theories that were floating around the community forums some substance.

We have found out why and how Tanjiro got his supernatural scar. For anime fans, the answers below are spoilers, but the heart wants what it wants. Fill in that need to know.

The mark on Tanjiro’s forehead is called the “Demon Slayer Mark” as it is now. It’s a mark that looks like a tattoo or, in some cases, a birthmark that gives the Demon Slayer who has its amazing powers.

People who use the Sun-Breathing technique, like (spoiler alert) Tanjiro Kamado, are directly connected to or the source of the Mark.

Demon Slayer Mark

Tanjiro Why does Tanjiro’s scar change? Why does he have a Scar?

The Demon Slayer of Tanjiro Mark is no longer just a birthmark or a scar from an accident, as he still thinks. It’s a strange mark that only shows up on the bodies of Demon Slayers who are very strong.

You could call it a tattoo, a scar, a birthmark, or even an insignia of a Demon Slayer. as it looks like all of them, but its most important feature is that it is linked to power.

Each Demon Slayer looks different and is made to fit the Breathing Style of the person who wears it.

The real story behind this mark is unknown, and readers may never find out. But it can be seen that some people were born with the mark.

Yoriichi Tsugikuni, the first person to use Sun Breathing, was born with the mark. Kokushibo, his brother, said in Chapter 177 that the mark was so strange that their father was ready to kill Yoriichi. It’s hard to believe that people already thought it was a curse.

But what’s even stranger is that earlier in the manga, Amane Ubuyashiki says that all of the swordsmen who brought Muzan close to death all had the mark. Isn’t it strange?

The interesting thing about how Tanjiro got this mark is that it wasn’t always a mark. It was just a scar from an accident that happened when he pulled his brother away from a falling brazier.

But soon, as Tanjiro starts his journey to becoming the strongest Demon Slayer, his scar changes into a mark. Aside from power, the mark is also linked to people who use Sun Breathing, like Yoriichi and, presumably, Tanjuro Kamado.

Shinjuro Rengoku is right: the mark is linked to people who use Sun Breathing. Because of his close relationship with Tanjiro and his skill with the Sun Breathing technique, he can use the Demon Slayer Mark. Amane Ubuyashiki says that Tanjiro is the first person to have the mark (presently).

But with great power comes great responsibility, or in this case, a curse. People who woke up their Demon Slayer Marks died when they were 25 years old.

Kokushibo thinks that the extra powers come at the cost of a shorter life span. But two people can avoid this curse.

Kokushibo chooses to become a demon instead of a human, and Yoriichi, for reasons nobody knows, lives to be 85 years old.

Why does Mark Change?

Tanjiro 1 Why does Tanjiro’s scar change? Why does he have a Scar?

Tanjiro is the key to this answer. The mark can grow and stay in people’s minds. When Tanjiro first got the scar on his forehead, it was just a burn from when he saved his brother from a falling brazier.

But as Tanjiro keeps getting stronger, the scar turns into a mark that spreads across his forehead.

We see four main types of the mark as the story goes on. The first one was his original piece of skin that was all torn up. After his fight with the Hand Demon, his scar changed into his second form.

During the fight with Rui, the third form becomes more powerful. Lastly, Tanjiro uses his Demon Slayer Mark for the first time against the Upper Moon 6, Gyutaro, and again with Hantengo.

It turns out that the mark only wakes up when certain conditions are met, such as having a heart rate of over 200 beats per minute and a body temperature of 39 degrees Celsius.

Another important precondition is a direct connection with the Sun Breathing technique. Once he wakes up his Demon Slayer Mark, he can use powers from other worlds, like Transparent World, to fight Akaza.

The mark gives the person who has it a boost to their physical abilities. It also gives them hyper perception (called “Transparent World”) and turns their Nichirin Blades red, which stops a demon from healing itself.

The boost gives them enough power to fight as well as the Twelve Kizuki.

The Demon Slayer Mark can also resonate, which is another interesting thing about it.

Just like in the Sengoku Era, when more than one Demon Slayer could use the Demon Slayer Mark, Hashiras who have nothing to do with the Sun Breathing technique wake up their Demon Slayer Marks in a similar way.

Through a process called resonance, the first mark can act as a spark and spread to other Demon Slayers who meet the requirements.

Muzan Kibutsuji and the Twelve Kizuki were doomed because of this ability. The Hashiras respond to Tanjiro’s marks and can use abilities that are similar to those of the Twelve Kizuki.

Other Users of Demon Slayer Mark

During the Sengoku period, this mark was owned by Yoriichi Tsugikuni and a few other swordsmen who helped start the Demon Slayer corps. Tanjuro Kamado, Tanjiro’s father, is also thought to have used the mark.

According to the main plot, Tanjiro Kamado and the Hashiras (Giyu Tomioka, Mitsuri Kanroji, Obanai Iguro, Sanemi Shinazugawa, Gyomei Himejima, and Muichiro Tokito) all woke up their Demon Slayer Marks.

Is Tanjiro the strongest of all?

Tanjiro 1 Why does Tanjiro’s scar change? Why does he have a Scar?

If the question were asked differently, like “Is Tanjiro the strongest demon slayer of all time?” the answer would be no, because Yoriichi Tsugikuni could beat Tanjiro in a fight.

But Tanjiro doesn’t let anyone down because he is the strongest demon slayer of his time, the Taisho period. Throughout the show, Tanjiro changes in a slow but interesting way. He beats Muzan by the end of the manga.

At that point, Tanjiro has both better physical abilities and a strong mind. Before he fights Muzan, Tanjiro masters Hinokami Kagura and uses the 13th form of the technique, which lets him keep using Selfless State, Transparent World, and the Crimson Blade for longer.

He wakes up his Demon Slayer Mark, which puts his skills at their best and doesn’t need any more explanation.
