Allagan Tomestones are a form of currency in Final Fantasy XIV.
You can get them by completing dungeons, trials, and raids.

The Tomestones are important pieces of information from a long time ago, and they are very sought after.
Different amounts of Allagan Tomestones will be given out when you finish Duty Roulettes, trials, and dungeons.
If you look them up, you’ll see that they have a lot of different names, like the Tomestone of Poetics, Lore, Mythology, and Phantasmagoria, to name a few.
The name comes from the level of rewards you can buy with them, and it’s not nearly as hard as it may seem.
Types Of Tomestones
As FFXIV has grown, Tomestones have been made easier to use, and older types have been phased out.
These days, the only way to get rewards in A Realm Reborn, Heavensward, and Stormblood is to use Allagan Tomestones of Poetics.
Tomestones of Allegory and Revelation are rewards for completing Shadowbringers content, and they can be used to buy high-end gear.
You can carry up to 2,000 of any type of Tomestone at once, except for the newest type, which you can only carry 450.
The Tomestones of Poetics could be used to buy useful gear and materials for crafting.
If you just reached level 50, going to a vendor is a great way to quickly improve your gear.
You’ll probably have a lot of Tomestones of Poetics just by going through the story and post-ARR content.
It’s also important to know that reaching level 50 isn’t enough to get access to the basic Tomestone vendors in the three core cities.
To see them, you’ll also need to finish the level 50 Main Scenario Quest “The Ultimate Weapon.”
This is pretty much the endgame for A Realm Reborn, and there is a lot of content here.
So, depending on how you play, you may not be able to get to them right away.
As you level up, Poetics will still be useful because it makes it easy to gear up for other jobs once they reach the right level.
Once you have 2,000 Tomestones, more than this might be wasted, so it’s a good idea to think ahead about which jobs you might want to level in the future and buy armor and weapons for them.
Where Can You Spend Tomestones?
In every big city, there will be a store that accepts Tomestones.
You can tell who they are by the blue pouch icon on the map.
As a new player, the first thing you should do is go to Rowena’s Representative, which is in New Gridania right next to the Aetheryte Plaza.
Limsa Lominsa and Ul’dah have similar things.
Each town has its own shops: Revenant’s Toll, Idyllshire, Ishgard, Kugane, and Eulmore.
So it will be easy to get better gear as you move through the expansions.
Moogle Treasure Trove Events
In the Moogle Treasure Trove events, which were added before Shadowbringers, players collect Irregular Tomestones, which they can then trade with the Itinerant Moogle in Gridania for unique rewards.
Bring up your Duty Finder when the Treasure Trove event is going on and look at the list.
When you do jobs marked with a small Moogle icon, you’ll get Irregular Tomestones in return.
You can then trade these in for a random mix of older items and one new one.
Usually, Treasure Trove events happened on the days before a new patch.

You can get powerful end-game gear from the Tomestones of Allegory and Revelation if you clear the current content.
And as the game gets bigger, old Tomestones will become useless and replaced by new ones.
