How exactly Kratos transitioned from the bloody ending of God of War 3 to his relatively subdued but no less violent life in the Norse realms of God of War PS4 is largely unknown.
These intervening years changed Kratos into a new character and made him ready for a new position both as a fighting man and a father. Below are 12 Mutated events that changed the face of Kratos over this period.
Kratos’ Departure from Greece

5. Meeting Faye and Finding Love Again

In Midgard Kratos met Faye – the wife, and the mother of his son Atreus, a smart and strong woman, a warrior by her nature. Love was the only thing that Kratos was desperate about and after losing everyone close to him Faye accepted him, which gave him companionship.
6. The Birth of Atreus
With Atreus, Kratos got a renewed chance at redemption and his birth was the new beginning for the God of War. He became a father and so put more emphasis on mentoring Atreus over patting the head. Transparently his role as a father led him to moderate his aggression and guide Atreus.
7. Switching of a New Weapon and Fight Formation

Leaving his famous Blades of Chaos behind, Kratos switched to Leviathan Axe which represents both – his Norse life and his new worldview. This weapon enabled him to pick a position that he felt was safer and he could push for a lifestyle that was free from violence.
8. Honoring Faye’s Legacy
Faye’s death was the turning point of the story which made Kratos perform her wishes so that they and Atreus reach the highest point in Midgard.
It also meant teaching Atreus about his lineage more focused on kindness and endurance rather than aggression.

9. Confronting His Rage

Krason was not able to entirely let go of his anger the entirety of the game and had constant struggles holding it in. This becomes his major conflict in God of War PS4, where he wants to make Atreus understand self-restraint instead of going headstrong with rage.
10. Cultural expectation of the father and son relationship
That is why Kratos’ decision to protect Atreus from the terrible truth helped them develop a warm father-son connection. This did become very significant in his journey as Kratos made Atreus into a compassionate warrior.

During many of his journeys in Midgard, Kratos kept himself masked from his true godly form. But he finally accepted that to save Atreus from the perils of the Norse universe one has to accept he is a monster.

Kratos remembers that his past will sooner or later return to hunt him down prudent himself and Atreus for what lies ahead. To be sure, he might have lived happily in Midgard for an interval, but Kratos understood that he had to go after the Aesir.
