Just as Breath of the Wild had Champions, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom provides players with five Sages to combat the threats of Hyrule but in the end, one Sage seems to matter most.
Even the initial strikes, abilities, and even utility not directly related to the fight, each of the companions shows their version of a helping hand.
Understanding the Role of Sages in Tears of the Kingdom
Sages are spirits associated with their corresponding elements and assist and aid Link with element-specific powers.
Some of these are attack abilities and others are support, which makes them very important for handling enemies and getting around the world.
They have to be summoned on bikes in exploration and on battles which is an added advantage to the players. To achieve a more realistic and engaging experience Sage must be mastered, though that is not always the requirement.
Sage Summons: A Breakdown
To make better sense of the ranking itself, it is necessary to know what every Sage has to offer first.
These can be a ranged, powerful attack, a shield, and a sort of bludgeon or tool: Riju’s lightning strikes, and Yunobo’s destructive charges sections.
The first of them is situational, but understanding how to capitalize on each of them makes for optimized effectiveness of the strengths.
1. Sage of Water – Sidon
Sidon, also known as the Sage of Water, stands on the list of the most useful and helpful helpers in Tears of the Kingdom.
Another trick up his sleeve can be used to deflect incoming fire which is coming in handy in terms of defense. His summon also provides good support during a fight since the shield, which can even block shots, provides a strong edge during ranged confrontation.
While Sidon might not be as flashy when it comes to his offense, his defense and utility are unmatched and put him in the upper echelon of Sages.
2. Sage of Lightning – Riju
Riju, The Sage of Lightning, will have a ‘Destruction’ ability that will be so powerful that it can jutsu enemies one and two and kill them instantly.
The electric kind special works well in dealing with hordes or several foes and during great storms to boot. However, the summoning of Riju is slightly more complex than that of most Sages because its timing and position should be ideal, thus, Riju is relatively less convenient.
Though, she goes through a phase of learning in her gameplay she has unyielding strength in combat that can prove rather helpful during specific boss battles and group raids.
3. Sage of Wind – Tulin
Tulin, the Sage of Wind, is a support character, who can either be used to fight enemies due to his potent Elemental Orb attacks or to traverse large areas of the map due to Flight. WIND Gusts helps Link to go farther and thus as the core of exploration, he is important.
Additionally, Tulin can stun and knock back enemies, providing some form of crowd control during battle. Although, the abilities of Tulin – do not seem to be as destructive as Riju or Sidon, the high mobility and AoE movement controllers make Tulin valuable as a companion when vast areas of exploring are required.
4. Sage of Fire – Yunobo
Yunobo, the Sage of Fire is an interesting character because of his might. While in combat and other action-oriented, he is as specialized in rolling into enemies and objects in a fiery charge.
The burn mechanics from Yunobo can melt through obstacles and dish out plenty of damage to armored enemies but slow movement speed and situational skills prevent him from being ranked higher.
Although in combat he is best utilized against targets with significant barriers, he is not as varied as the other Sages.
5. Sage of Spirit – Mineru
Mineru, the Sage of Spirit, is indeed rather exclusive. Unlike the typical summoning where the player would get a companion or a beast, Mineru gives Link powers over a large machine.
This construction can be equipped with different Zonai devices, it will be useful in various activities. Compared to the other Sages, though, Mineru does provide some creative gameplay in battle, but her movement is low and her abilities are mediocre.
While Miner’s flexibility is interesting the overall utility that she brings to the situation makes her ranked at the bottom in this particular ranking.
