The Legend of Zelda: Every Iteration of Zelda, Ranked By Design

Ranking the various designs for The Legend of Zelda’s Princess Zelda Character is possible. This might seem like it hasn’t changed much, but over 20 original games, Zelda’s look has changed more drastically than it appears.

Oh yeah, she’s pink and clichéd; advertising the beauty of a dress while flaunting it, but there are always defects straying from these norms, always serving the purpose of telling the player what personality disorders each princess has.

As the namesake protagonist, Zelda has been featured in every single main game title besides Link’s Awakening and Tri Force Heroes; as such, her design idiosyncrasies are tremendously varied.

Hyrule Warriors Zelda: A Warrior Princess

Lilcia – or more specifically Princess Zelda of Hyrule Warriors – doesn’t look delicate at all: she’d inspire confidence in her warrior’s physique alone.

Her armored look sets her apart from the Disney princess look or feeling some previous films incorporated. This version is further much appreciated due to the homosexual yet threatening look she has and is therefore a favorite when it comes to combat-based games.

Elegant but Battle-Hardened

The armor that she wears looks royal enough, yet is practical enough for a warrior. She wears a cape and accessory armor which makes her look like a warrior queen not embarrassing her queen look at all.

Dynamic in Combat

It is more of an action design than previous Zeldas because Links has been shown that she can fight on her own. It makes her beautiful and powerful at the same time.

Color and Armor Balance

That is why gold accents–amalgamated with the shades of purple–tell about the queen’s status, as well as convey a sense of power. Her nobility inhabited the clothes, but at the same time, the designers were able to make her dressed for the fight.

Defining Moment of Strength

Lovers of this version are attracted to Zeida for not being just the normal waiting-to-be-rescued kind of character. Her warrior-themed character increases her total impact on the game environment in general.

Twilight Princess Zelda: The Pinnacle of Nobility

Zelda in Twilight Princess is one of the most complex versions of the game introduced so far. Her design is graceful and wise – a theme perfect for a character who is a real queen. This iteration takes perhaps the biggest inspiration from the traditional image of a calm, commanding officer.

Regal Yet Mysterious

The complex patterns and the colors of Zelda‘s clothes are also mysteriously dark. Her fancy fluid garments and impressive stitches make her a queen of a kingdom in distress.

A Design Rooted in Authority

This design is somewhat more recognizably traditional ‘princess’ style, though her armor subtly underlines her leadership and function as both protector of her people and warrior. Her design is graceful and wise – the show should be about the queen, and that theme is chosen in accord with the protagonist.

The Role of Tradition and Modernity

As is the case with many other aspects of Zelda’s appearances, her clothing also features elements borrowed from Twilight Princess incarnation while also introducing qual new traits; Zelda wears a gown, tiara, and royal purple and blue colors, yet she is more self-confident character compared to some other representations of the series.

Reflecting the Darker Tone

Her more serious look, and mostly black clothes better convey the dark atmosphere of the game, as well as making her look more mature for the work she is to do. This version is dear to gamers who enjoy a mature and realistic incarnation of the Zelda character.

Skyward Sword Zelda: The Girl Next Door

Unlike most of the female characters from previous Zelda games, Zelda in Skyward Sword is not your typical princess. This design having a youthful and playful feel makes her look accessible than before. This version presents Zelda before she assumes her throne, and is easily likable by the many fans of the series.
