Master Kohga is one of the monsters in The Legend of Zelda: BoTW and the Yiga Clan’s leader. The leader of the Yiga Clan, a group formed with just a single objective: eliminate Link.
He dispatches his underlings all over Hyrule to find you but he sleeps and idles the majority of his time.
However, he is respected due to his mastery of the extraordinary arts. If he were to die then his followers won’t relinquish their singular duty.
Master Kohga’s First Phase
Dodge His Attack
Shit happens in Kohga combat missions where Kohga starts by calling a huge spiked boulder over his head and throws it at Link. Avoid the attack as it is very slow but does quite heavy damage as Dodge-Devil moves back to avoid it.
Use Magnesis
If the boulder is above Kohga, in the mine, where there is water, wait while the bologist stops moving, and uses Magnesis to crash it on him. This will send him down and make him easy meat.
Attack with Melee
When Kohga is stunned, he charges at him and hits him as much as possible with close-quarters attacks. Perform this process until Kawhga continues to call for more boulders.
Master Kohga’s Second Phase
Floating Metal Balls
During the second stage, Kohga forms multiple much smaller balls of metallic material. He will call for these and try to command them to fight you.
Timing and Aim
As before, wait until the ball is on top of Kohga’s head. This time, you’ll need to use the Bow and Arrow, you will have to shoot it at the boulder to make it fall and kill him.
Melee Counterattack
If Kohga is hit, it will retreat and pull the player into a skid, so close distance again to hit it with heavy melee attacks. Once again, since Kohga will reuse the same attack pattern from the first phase, continue the same approach until this phase is over.
Final Phase and Defeating Master Kohga
Giant Spiked Ball
The last fight again involves the giant spiked boulder, but this time it is much, much bigger. Kohga will use it to try and use it in a last-ditch attack.
Magnesis Again
As in all previous phases, consider the timing, then lure the Boulder with a movement-activated Magnesis to hit Kohga before he can throw it.
Finishing Blow
Finally, after a few hits, Kohga will surrender in his dramatic style like an opera singer. This ends this fight, had you triumphed over the Yiga Clan leader earlier on, had you not, do it now.
Rewards and Aftermatch
Thunder Helm
In the main story after subduing Master Kohga you get the Thunder Helm Headgears which are used in quests connected with Gerudo Town later on.
Yiga Clan Hideout Cleared
After the Kohga evacuation, the hideout is much more secure to pass through as a thief. There is no longer any need for secrecy to advance.
