Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake Gets Far-Off New Release Window

A release window of 2026 was given to the upcoming remake of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time by Ubisoft at the Ubisoft Forward event.

This comes after the game experienced a number of setbacks. Regrettably, this indicates that the remake of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time is still a long way off, as the development of the game is still ongoing at the studios of Ubisoft Montreal and Ubisoft Toronto.

It was first announced at Ubisoft Forward in September 2020 that the remake of Prince of Persia: Sands of Time would be released, and the initial release date for the game was scheduled for January 21, 2021.

But the reveal trailer was met with criticism and backlash from long time title Prince of Persia fans, which caused Ubisoft to change its release plans for the title.

Ubisoft Pune and Ubisoft Mumbai were removed from the project, and Ubisoft Montreal, the company that was responsible for developing the original Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, was presented with the opportunity to develop the remake going forward.

Ubisoft also delayed the title indefinitely, and a report from April 2024 suggested that the development of the title had been restarted.

This indicates that the game is still a long way from being released. The news that Ubisoft Toronto had joined the development of the remake of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time was announced earlier this month by the company themselves.

A new teaser trailer was shown during the digital event that was held by Ubisoft on June 10th, and it revealed that the remake of Prince of Persia: Sands of Time will be released in the year 2026.

An ancient Persian city served as the backdrop for the teaser trailer, which featured a candle being lit, and the candle was lit.

In a disappointing turn of events, the trailer does not demonstrate any new gameplay, and it is not clear whether the trailer is using any footage from within the game’s engine for the remake.

Fans of Prince of Persia will have to wait two years before they will be able to play the new remake, and furthermore, the remake itself has been delayed by at least five years from its original release date of January 2021.

Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake Trailer Reveals New Release Window

  • Launching in 2026
  • Development of the remake has restarted and is entering full production.
  • Ubisoft Montreal is being assisted by Ubisoft’s Toronto, Bucharest, Paris, and Pune studios.

Furthermore, Ubisoft has confirmed that the remake of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time is currently in the process of being reconstructed from the ground up and is now entering its full production phase.

This confirms previous reports that stated that Ubisoft Montreal had restarted the development of the remake and scrapped everything that Ubisoft Pune and Ubisoft Mumbai had worked on.

The development of the remake is assisted by Ubisoft’s studios in Toronto, Bucharest, Paris, and Pune as well.

While they wait for the remake, players may enjoy Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown and look forward to its new story DLC, titled “Mask of Darkness.” The Rogue Prince of Persia, developed by Evil Empire, is now available for early access on Steam for personal computers.
