The IV Checker is here. Want to check your team’s IVs? Here’s a step-by-step guide on unlocking the Judge Function in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet.
In Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, the importance of your Pokemon’s stats cannot be overstated.
In order to conquer 5-star and 6-star Tera Raid battles, it’s important to optimise your Pokemon’s stats by breeding Pokemon with perfect IVs and training their EVs accurately.
In a nutshell, IVs represent the potential of your Pokemon’s base stats. As the IV increases, the corresponding stat has a greater potential for growth during levelling up.
If you’re looking for guidance on how to access this information, you’ve found the perfect resource. In this guide, we’ll explore how to unlock the Judge function and easily check your team’s IVs.
How To Obtain the Judge Function?
The Judge Function is a helpful tool within the game that allows you to easily check the IV (Individual Values) spread of any Pokemon in its stats. However, this menu is not included as a default option.
Instead, you’ll have to make your way through the main story of the game and defeat all three main arcs: The Gym Leaders, Team Star, and the Path of Legends Titan Pokemon.
Just finish up the last story arc and you’ll be able to see the credits.
After reaching that point, head to any Pokemon Centre. The nurse will inform you that the Judge Function is now unlocked.
IV Checker: How to Check IVs
To check your IVs, just open up your Boxes menu and choose the Pokemon you want to check. Next, you can press the Plus (+) button to navigate to the Judge Function screen.
Here, you can view the IVs of each of your Pokemon’s stats, which range from “No Good” to “Best”. Below, you can find the precise value ranges for each label.
- Best – 31
- Fantastic – 30
- Very Good – 26-29
- Pretty Good – 16-25
- Decent – 1-15
- No Good – 0
IVs in Pokemon are generated randomly when you catch or hatch them, but don’t worry! You can always change them later using the Hyper Training Function.
These numbers provide insight into the true strength of a stat once a Pokemon has been fully trained, rather than its current state.
When the IV is higher, the corresponding stat can reach higher values after being fully EV-trained or by using stat-boosting items like Protein.
Understanding IVs and Their Benefits
As stated earlier, IVs play a crucial role in determining the unique stats of your Pokemon. Every time you catch or breed a Pokemon, it will be given a set of IVs that range from zero to 31.
The value of 31 is considered the highest possible. Each Pokemon possesses unique IVs, resulting in the possibility of encountering two Pikachus with varying stats.
IVs may appear insignificant at first glance, but their cumulative impact becomes evident in Tera Raid battles and, particularly, in competitive battles.
When building a competitive team, it’s important to ensure that your Pokemon have optimal stats. This will give you an edge against your opponent, who will likely be doing the same.
While IVs play a crucial role, it’s equally essential to select the right nature for your Pokemon and diligently train their EVs to optimise their advantageous stats.
This can be a lengthy process, but in Scarlet and Violet, Hyper Training and Nature Mints make it much more convenient.
