How to turn on Proximity Chat in Fortnite

Players can interact with their squadmates in the Battle Royale game Fortnite through a variety of team modes.

Proximity chat, which allows players to hear sounds from other players’ microphones nearby, is in popular demand, but it hasn’t been included in the main game yet.

At present, proximity chat is exclusive to Fortnite Creative, which may act as a trial version before it is deployed in Battle Royale.

This tutorial will go over how proximity chat functions in Fortnite and how users can customize its behavior by turning it on or off.

New gameplay options in creator-created experiences are made possible by Epic Games’ addition of proximity chat to Fortnite Creative.

To incorporate proximity chat into a Fortnite island, a designer must first enable it during the map setup process.

Creators must visit the Island Settings menu, Select Mode, navigate to the Voice Chat Section, and select the Proximity Chat option to enable proximity chat.

After enabling proximity chat, authors can modify the following parameters:

  • Full Voice Distance: Adjusts the range at which participants may hear one another.
  • Falloff Distance: Establishes the separation between players at which their voices progressively grow softer.

It’s possible that some players won’t feel comfortable using proximity chat on Fortnite Creative Islands.

Players can change their settings to prevent hearing other people, even if they cannot stop proximity communication for everyone unless they are the island’s founders.

While on the island, enter the Settings menu, select Audio, and then scroll down to the Voice Chat area to silence other players.

Players can then choose their preferred Voice Chat settings from there. Opting for “Friends Only” or “Off” will shield them from hearing from people who aren’t on their friend list.

As an alternative, choosing “Friends and Teammates” enables individuals to tune out other players and hear their buddies.

In Fortnite, players can activate graphical sound effects if proximity chat is essential to achieving the island’s goals.
