The Legend of Zelda: As for the Tears of the Kingdom, it has a total of 152 of these, 120 from the Surface world and 32 from the Sky world.
As far as I know, there are no Shrines in the Depths, but there are Lightroots which can be accessed for fast traveling as the Shrines do.
Every single shrine holds a small set of challenges to complete, some items to collect like a chest and at least one chest and Light of Blessing.
Each time you have obtained the Treasure Chest ranged from a Shrine, its name has an additional marker of a chest whenever you hover the cursor over the map.
What Do Shrines Offer?
Shrines are useful in Tears of the Kingdom and offer potent rewards but what do they add to the game?
Light of Blessing

The principal Candesta that is achieved after the completion of a Shrine is the Light of Blessing. Gathering four lights allows players to expand either the health or endurance of Link, something that is connected to the growth and ability to advance through and power through really difficult battles.
Fast Travel Points
Faster means of transport such as trains and other transport means are also found in shrines. When activated, players can transport to these points from any point on the map, which will not only save much gaming time but will also keep the geography of the world of Hyrule in check.
Unique Challenges
Every Shrine contains different types of puzzles or combat trials but all of the portions of the game have a heavy emphasis on the usage of particular mechanics such as Ultrahand for the environment problem-solving or combat. Such specific mechanics always maintain entertaining and engaging activities for the players.
Treasure Chests

There are also treasure chests in many Shrines that provide useful items for Link such as weapons and shields and useful material in the game. It is important, that each Shrine is discovered as far as possible in detail.
Exploring Shrine Locations
As challenging as it can get, one would want to locate all 152 Shrines. Here are the steps a player can take to find and defeat them.
Surface Shrines

The majority of Shrines are situated across the face of Hyrule and can be assimilated into the environment or are pioneered behind puzzles. These are generally seen from above to ease the lookout to find new locations where Shrines may be possibly located.
Sky Shrines
Certain Shrines are located in the sky islands and players have to use unique strategies to reach these zones: launching from the towers, and riding updrafts. Getting to these Shrines makes the exploration even more challenging as far as logistics are concerned.
Underground Shrines
Some shrines are located, in hidden locations like the caves or depths that players would certainly have to explore. These Shrines are more difficult than the other ones but yield the best rewards usually.
Shrine Quests

Some Shrines are available only after completing some quest or solving one puzzle in the open world. They may be obtained only after the player completes particular side tasks or solves various puzzles in the game environment.
