15. Hellsing: Ultimate
In Hellsing, the main character is a vampire named Alucard. He is forced to work for the English government and hunt down supernatural threats, such as other vampires, murderous priests, or armies of undead Nazis.
This shonen series has both action and scary, macabre parts. For example, the characters can change into monsters with many eyes or mindless ghouls.
In one of the most famous scenes, clouds pass over the blood-red moon as Alucard’s body is smashed to pieces.
Then he gets up and shows his enemies what a monster he really is as he comes down on them.
14. Junji Ito Collection
Horror manga is best done by Junji Ito. His work has a bit of a Lovecraftian feel to it because he plays on people’s fears of the unknown.
Some of his stories, like “Tomie” and “Uzumaki,” are thought to be some of the best horror manga, but his short stories are just as scary.
These episodes will stick with you long after you’ve stopped watching the show. Also, Ito’s story “Tomie,” which is one of his scariest, has been turned into a two-part OVA.
13. Elfen Lied
It’s hard to say what it is about Elfen Lied that makes it so great. More than anything else, it is the contrast between the sweet innocence of a child and the brutality of a wild animal.
Half of the story is about a budding romance and two cousins taking care of an amnesiac girl who acts like a child.
The other half, which is darker, is about twisted medical experiments, torture that causes trauma, and monsters with invisible arms that warp reality.
The show ran for 13 episodes during the summer of 2004, but not all of them held up well.
This list starts with Another, a horror-thriller anime that came out in the winter of 2012. The show is about Yomiyama North Middle School’s class 3-3.
Every year, the class has a tradition where they act like one of them doesn’t exist. This is because a terrible death happened when an extra student was added to a class in the past.
It’s Mei Misaki this year. Kouichi Sakakibara can’t ignore her when he moves to class 3-3.
This makes it inevitable that a number of people will die in a very gory way. Another show had 12 episodes in one season.
There have been a lot of Berserk animes over the years, but the first one from 1997, which had 25 unforgettable episodes, is by far the best.
In the first episode, the Black Swordsman, a scarred and one-eyed demon hunter named Guts is shown.
Then, the story goes back in time to when Guts was younger and fought as a mercenary in a war that lasted 100 years.

But even he can’t save the people around him from the hellspawn that turn into humans so they can hunt their prey more easily.
At the same time, a new drug craze and rising xenophobia caused a moral panic that led to a full-scale genocide.
9. Soul Eater
Soul Eater is an anime about the supernatural and the fantastic that came out in the spring of 2008.
The show takes place at Death Weapon Meister Academy, which is in Death City and is run by Lord Death.
This academy makes weapons for Shinigami that can change into weapons out of human hybrids. Death the Kid is the main character of Soul Eater.
He is a Shinigami who uses his sisters Liz and Patty as guns. Soul Eater has 51 episodes in one season. Soul Eater also has a spin-off called Soul Eater NOT!
8. Devils Line
Devils Line is a romance drama about vampires that came out in the spring of 2018.
The show takes place in a world where vampires and people live together. These vampires aren’t like other vampires because they don’t need blood to live.
But it calms them down when they get angry. After he saves her from a fight, Taira Tsukasa meets Anzai Yuuki, who is half human and half vampire.
Anzai worries that by getting close to Taira, he is putting her in danger. Anzai has to work on the police squad and deal with his vampire tendencies at the same time. Devils Line has 12 episodes in one season.
7. Blood Blockade Battlefront
Blood Blockade Battlefront is a supernatural comedy anime that came out in the spring of 2015.
In Japan, it was called Kekkai Sensen. In the world of the show, supernatural creatures and humans live together in New York City. Residents can’t leave the city anymore, so they have to get along with each other.
The peace is kept by a group called Libra. A photographer named Leonardo Watch lives in New York City.
When his sister goes blind, he gets the “All-Seeing Eyes of the Gods.” Leo works with Libra to find a way to help his sister. There are 12 episodes in Blood Blockade Battlefront, which ran for two seasons.
6. Tokyo Ghoul
If you’ve been looking for a reason to start Tokyo Ghoul, this is it. Tokyo Ghoul is a drama from the summer of 2014 that is about supernatural things.
The show takes place in Tokyo, where people and ghouls live together. But these ghouls can hide by looking like people.

4. Rosario + Vampire
Rosario + Vampire is a harem-themed romantic comedy anime that came out in the winter of 2008.
The show takes place at a boarding school for supernatural beings called Youkai Academy. At this school, monsters learn how to live with people.
Teenage human Tsukune Aono is moved to the academy, where he meets vampire Moka Akashiya.
Moka likes Tsukune, and the two of them get into crazy adventures where Moka’s true self has to save them.
Along the way, Tsukune meets a witch, a succubus, and a yuki-onnna spirit, among other girls. Rosario + Vampire has aired for two seasons and has 13 episodes.
3. Interviews with Monster Girls
Interviews with Monster Girls is a comedy school anime that came out in the winter of 2017. If you don’t like gore, you might not like it.
Tetsuo Takahashi is a biology teacher at Shibasaki High School, and the story is about him. Besides studying biology, he also studies “half-humans.”
A vampire, a yuki-onna spirit, a Dullahan, and a succubus are among the demi-humans who go to the high school.
If you didn’t like Rosario + Vampire, this is a good choice. There was only one season of Interviews with Monster Girls, which had 12 episodes.
Mononoke is an anime that came out in the summer of 2007 and is a psychological horror. In the story, Kusuiuri Apothecary, also called the Medicine Seller, is the main character.
Medicine Seller looks like an elf, even though he isn’t really a person. As he travels through Japan, he kills ghosts called Mononoke.
On his way, he runs into a pregnant woman who is staying at an inn. Medicine Seller looks into the spirits to find out where they come from and what they want.
Her room is full of Mononoke. Mononoke had 12 episodes, and there is a season called Ayakashi: Samurai Horror Tales that comes before it.
1. Parasyte: The Maxim
The Maxim is an action and horror anime that came out in the fall of 2014. When aliens come to Earth, they have stuck tubes into people’s brains.
Shinichi Izumi is one of the people who were attacked. But instead of taking over his brain, the parasite has now taken over his hand.
Shinichi and Migi, his parasite, have to fight off other parasites. The Maxim has only one season, with 24 episodes.
