The God of War series is filled with myths and stories but some enigmas are unanswered and give fans a lot of things to think about.
These are questions to think about from ancient pantheons to cryptic plot points that further keep players of the God of War engaged.
1. Who Blew the Horn?

One of the most well-known open questions is the sound of the horn of the World Serpent in the God of War (2018). At one point for example when Kratos is carrying Atreus trying to save him from a sickness a booming sound is heard in the background.
Mimir says that the horn is used to summon Jörmungandr but in the whole game, it never reveals who blew the horn. Some Fans have brought up the idea and say it was an older version of Atreus or even Faye while others still ponder about it today regardless of the God of War Ragnarok.
2. Faye’s Backstory
The character of Kratos’ wife Faye or Laufey the Just of the game can be best described as being full of mystery. Whatever becomes of Faye, she is dead by the time the events of God of War (2018) take place but her presence is felt throughout the game.
However, many questions are still left unanswered – despite being a giantess, and a mighty warrior, she was shown as a woman.
Did she know the story about Kratos’ past? But what was her motive and when and how did she pass on? What were her intentions? Was she really in love with Kratos? The actuality is that Ragnarok only tells half the story of her adventures.
3. The Curse of the Blades of Chaos

Like many other features, the Blades of Chaos, Kratos’ Axes, are used in the Norse saga even though the hero left them in Greece.
A comic named Fallen God tries to make sense that these blades are ‘cursed’ and follows Kratos around. However, many people are unsure what the antelope sign constitutes as a curse.
Why are the Blades of Chaos still around, while the Blades of Athena which Kratos was wielding in God of War II are no longer around?
4. Atreus’ Voices
Atreus is surrounded by the voices of the dead throughout God of War (2018) but the sources of these voices or their intended purpose is never really made clear.
At other times it seems to be his thoughts or memories, especially conjured from his recently deceased mother, Faye; often enough these visions are accompanied by sharp physical pains. Is he completely in touch with his incarnation as Loki or do those voices have something to do with the prophecy of Ragnarok? As for this mystery, it has not been solved to this date.
5. The Helheim Watcher

When Kratos travels through Helheim there is a large eagle overhead. This is a known figure as Hraesvelgr in Norse mythology and it is never quite delved into in the game.
At one point earlier in development, the eagle was originally supposed to be fought as a boss but instead, the character simply watches. Of its association with the underworld and its actual use fans are still left in the dark in the hope that subsequent sequels will shed some more light on it.
6. The Missing Greek Gods
As Kratos killed many of the gods of Greek mythology, some of them such as Artemis and Apollo are absent from the series altogether but are mentioned. Whatever happened to them during Kratos’ rampage? And do they have potential for future games if they are not killed off?
7. Kratos’ True Immortality

Kratos has been getting killed and reborn several times and this means a lot of debate on his death. Is he immortal, or is there a witch or artifact that keeps him from actually being killed?
8. Other Deities
There are references to such mythologies as Egyptian or Japanese included in God of War hints. Just how closely linked are these ‘pantheons’ and will we see Kratos fighting these other gods?
9. Athena’s Higher Plane

Finally, Athena comes as a spirit after Abel’s death pretending to be on a higher plain. What does this plane even mean and how did Athena ascend to this plane? Her still ethereal character brings a mystery that has not been delved into. G Himself has yet to embrace mystery.
10. The Future of Atreus
As Atreus is only now setting out on his journey, there are many things about his future as Loki remains rather unclear. What further dynamics will his giant part and the son of Kratos create in the subsequent encounter?
These mysteries persist in generating interest among fans and, God of War sequels may shed light on it. Until then, they are some of the biggest loose ends in the gaming world.
