The announcement of Gears of War: E-Day came as a surprise to Gears of War fans because they had been led to believe that Gears of War 6 would be presented at the event via leaks and rumours. Gears of War: E-Day is a prequel set 14 years before the original game, rather than continuing the story where Gears 5 left off.
