FFXIV: How To Get Flax?

Botanists with level 31 can get flax from the Lower Paths area of the South Shroud (X:17.4, Y:28.6). You can get here by teleporting to Camp Tranquil aetheryte. When you arrive, you’ll be surrounded by flax-gathering nodes.

“Lush Vegetation Patch” is the name of the place where you can gather plants.

As long as your “Triangulate” skill is active, blue markers will show up on your minimap to show where these are.

There are also many other ways to get flax, such as gardening, levequests, ventures, and desynthesis. But of all these ways, I’d recommend levelling up your botanist.

The fastest and most reliable way is for a botanist to gather flax, which will cost almost no gil.

But if you want some other ways to do it, we’ll talk about those in more detail below.

Getting Flax With a Green Thumb

One other way to get flax is to grow it in a garden.

In FFXIV, you need a house or an apartment before you can start gardening.

You’ll want to buy flowerpots once you have a place to stay. You can also buy gardening patches for your seeds if you have a house or are in a Free Company that has one.

Linseeds are the seeds you want to find if you want to harvest flax.

Botanists can also find these seeds in the same area where flax grows.

After you plant your linseeds, you should be able to pick them up in about 5 days. Just make sure you take care of them at least once a day.

Leveraging Levequests for Flax

To Get Flax

In FFXIV, you can get a lot of experience points from Levequests if you are a Disciple of the Land or Hand. When done, they also give out random items as rewards.

Flax can be a reward for tradecraft level 30 and level 35 quests. Before taking a quest from the levemete NPC, you can see what items you’ll be getting, so make sure you check to see if you’ll be getting an extra bit of flax.

There are three NPCs, Eustace in Ul’dah, Cimeaurant in the Central Highlands of Coerthas, and Nahctahr in Eastern La Noscea, who give out level-up quests for these levels.

Here is a list of the quests that these three levemetes might give you that could give you more flax:

Eustace

Ul’dah – Steps of Nald (X:12.1, Y:9.1)

  1. By the Seat of the Paints (Level 30 WVR)
  2. By the Short Hairs (Level 30 WVR)
  3. Our Man in Ul’dah (Level 30 WVR)
  4. Crunching the Numbers (Level 35 WVR)
  5. Edmelle’s Hair (Level 35 WVR)
  6. Private Concerns (Level 35 WVR)

Nahctahr

Eastern La Noscea (X:30.5, Y:30.9)

  1. Half is the New Double (Level 30 WVR)
  2. Put on Your Party Pants (Level 30 WVR)
  3. Walk Softly and Carry a Big Halberd (Level 30 WVR)

Cimeaurant

Coerthas Central Highlands (X:26.1, Y:28.3)

  1. A Leg Up on the Cold (Level 35 WVR)
  2. In Over Your Head (Level 35 WVR)
  3. The Wages of Sin (Level 35 WVR)

Other Ways To Get Flax

You can also get flax in a couple of other ways. Your retainers are one of these ways.

Like many other crafting materials, your retainers can go on specific missions to collect flax. When your retainers reach level 31 as botanists, you can give them the quest to look for this item.

These quests take at least 40 minutes and up to an hour to finish. Depending on how well-equipped your retainers are, you will get 15 to 50 pieces of flax as a reward.

I think you should use this method when you’re busy doing other things in the game or while you’re farming. So, you can get the most out of the time you spend stocking your store.

Desynthesis is another way to get your hands on flax.

I wouldn’t use this as your main way to get things though, since the results of a desynth aren’t very predictable.

When Mythril books are broken up, there is a chance that flax will come out. Alchemists who have finished the quest “Gone to Pieces” from Syntgoht in Ul’dah, Steps of Thal, and are at least level 30 can do this (X:14.0, Y:10.0).

FFXIV Flax Uses

Weavers and alchemists use flax in a few recipes.

Here are some things that can be made with flax:

  1. Book of Mythril (Level 42 Alchemist)
  2. Linen Yarn (Level 32 Weaver)
  3. Linseed Oil (Level 29 Alchemist)
  4. Ramie Thread (Level 54 Weaver)

It’s important to note that spools of ramie thread are used in more than 80 recipes, most of which are for the leatherworker class.

These are used to make several things, such as the Expeditioner’s Coat, which is a glamorous item.

Flax can also be used to complete your Grand Company’s Supply and Provisioning Missions.

Level 31 botanists will be asked for 10 pieces in exchange for company seals and experience points.
