When an item is masterworked, affix values will rise ladder, typically by 5% per step up. An item will be 45%% stronger at maximum rank than it will be at non-Masterworked.

This is true for every four upgrades and means that sometimes a mechanical or even Tempered affix will also earn this boost. Of course, anyone who has played Diablo knows that the best build in Diablo 4 requires mastering of your items.

How Masterworking Works in Diablo 4

Masterworking like tempering is performed at the blacksmith and it is available for players in the World Tier 4. Max 12 masterworks can be used and applying these masterworks will change the existing affixes of the gear but new ones cannot be added.

Players use the Tempering mechanism to add new affixes consequently, the two systems complement each other.

The affixes on the gear increase by 5% more with every upgrading. Importantly, one affix benefits from 25% improvement from levels 4, 8, & 12 upgrades. Blessedly, players might be able to apply this increase more often than once to these affixes.

Beside that Masterworking requires specific materials that are available only in The Pit – endgame system with periodic, multistage battle, These tasks must be completed by players in order to acquire the amounts of supplies needed.

These items are as follows, along with the upgrade brackets they are used for:

  • Obducite: Rank 1-4
  • Ingolith: Rank 5-8
  • Neathiron: Rank 9-12

Whenever a player grows weary of a masterwork or is not pleased with a result obtained after appreciating the gear fully, the masterwork can be reset.

The main additions will still be arbitrary, so players should plan before taking, as this will not compensate their resources.
