Updated July 5, 2024, by Shagun Singh: Chibi is a popular style of Japanese caricature often found in manga and anime, where characters are depicted with exaggerated features. Chibi figures are known for their adorable and playful appearance, with their large heads, short limbs, and simplified features. In the Western anime fan community, this term is commonly used to describe characters with exaggerated proportions, such as abnormally large heads and small bodies, which often result in comedic moments. The characters in chibi anime are adorable, chubby, and radiate pure joy. Chibi figures often make cameo appearances in certain episodes of anime, but they are more frequently seen in art or brief scenes that aim to add a touch of lightheartedness.

The third and fourth seasons of the Hetalia Axis Powers anime.
A continuation of the first 2 seasons under a new name, still adapting the online webcomics drawn by Himaruya Hidekaz.
Based on a popular web-released manga series by Hidekazu Himaruya, this has been described as a “cynical gag” story set in Europe in the years between WW1 and WW2 (1915-1939), using exaggerated caricatures of the different nationalities as portrayed by a gaggle of bishōnen.
For example, the Italia Veneziano character is into pasta and women.
The Deutsche (German) bishi loves potatoes and sausages, and Nippon is an otaku boy.
Installments of the manga have jumped back and forth in setting from the ancient times to modern-day geopolitics.
The manga’s title comes the Japanese words for “useless” (hetare) and Italy (Italia).
13. One Piece: Straw Hat Theater

The first short is about Chopper Man infiltrating the lair of the evil Dr. Usodabada. The second short is a news report on what food was like for the Straw Hats before Sanji joined the crew.
The third short investigates the hypothetical situation of “if the Straw Hat Pirates were Obahan, who would be the strongest?” The fourth short is about the bosses of the Luffione, Zorocia, and Sanjino families fighting for control.

What if nations were people? What traits would they have? What would this mean for historical events?

The show takes a comedic and light approach to politics and historical events while educating the viewer.
Taking place primarily during the events of World War I and World War II, the story focuses on the Axis Powers and occasionally throws the spotlight onto the tumultuous relationship between the Allied Forces.
The Axis Powers feature the titular character North Italy, who is clumsy, carefree and loves pasta; Germany, who is very serious but easily flustered; and Japan, who is stoic but has bizarre interests.
8. Shakugan no Shana Specials
The world has become a slaughtering ground for the Crimson Denizens, mysterious beings from a parallel universe who thrive on the life energy of humans.
These merciless murderers only leave behind scant remainders of souls called “Torches,” which are mere residues that will eventually be destroyed, along with the very fact of the victims’ existence from the minds of the living.
In an ambitious endeavor to put an end to this invisible, hungry massacre, warriors called Flame Hazes relentlessly fight these monsters.
One fateful day, Yuuji Sakai ceases to be a regular high schooler—he becomes trapped in a crevice of time and is suddenly attacked by a Denizen.
Coming to his rescue just in the nick of time is a nameless hunter who seems no different from an ordinary young girl except for her blazing eyes and burning crimson hair.
However, before Yuuji can learn anything more about his situation, he discovers that he has already been reduced to a Torch—merely a scrap of memory waiting to be extinguished.
7. Baka to Test to Shoukanjuu
Fumizuki Academy isn’t a typical Japanese high school. This unique institution has implemented a new and innovative system to sort its students.
At the end of their freshman year, students take a test that divides up the student body. The highest scorers are placed into A class, all the way down until F class, for the lowest of the low.
Unfortunately for Akihisa Yoshii, his supposedly “great” intellect wasn’t quite enough for such a test, and he’s now stuck at the bottom of F class.
Naturally, F class has the worst facilities: not only rotten tatami mats and broken tables, but also outdated equipment and worn out furniture.
On the bright side, his friend Yuuji Sakamoto is in the same class, and to everyone’s surprise, the genius girl Mizuki Himeji has also ended up in the same class due to an unforeseen fever on the day of the test.
6. Sword Art Online: Sword Art Offline
Sword Art Offline was a bonus series that recapped the events of the anime through the form of a talk show run by the show’s characters.

Despite completing all the tasks given to them, Ainz Ooal Gown, Tanya Degurechaff, Kazuma Satou, Subaru Natsuki, and the other members of Class 2 are surprised to find out that their role as students is far from over.
With no means of returning home, the class of eccentric personalities is still mysteriously stuck in the unfamiliar world.
Although, as they are becoming quite fond of each other, spending more time together does not sound that bad.
With the unexpected arrival of new transfer students, the comedic antics of our beloved characters continue to grow.
Thus, their bizarre yet nonchalant school life continues.
4. Accel World Specials
As many of you know, Accel World is nicely animated and has a huge variation of colours and drawstiles gathered within it (good visible when watching in HD). The 2 Accel World EX episodes were made the same way.
However, Accel World Specials is drawn in a way that you would expect to find in an American cartoonserie for people aged between 4 and 6. It’s completely ruines the artwork reputation the original Accel World series has.
Second, the storyline. Except for the characters and some basics from the Accel World series, it has nearly nothing to do with the original series. these ‘Accel World Specials’ follow a complete different storyline, and to my opinion it’s also a very dumb storyline.
Especially someone who just finished watching Accel World I’d strongly recommend NOT to watch Accel World Specials. It will completely ruin your idea of the Accel World Universe.
3. Toradora SOS!
After watching the series I had to see the OVA’s especially when I found out these dealt with food.
Let me say this first off.. To me.. this was almost better than the series.
I thought the series lacked the comedy everyone had said it had.. but to me.. these four OVA’s completely made up for it.
All of the episodes are about 5 minutes long and they honestly move very quickly.
The characters are all in chibi form.. plus the girls have animal ears and tails added lol… so.. the art is pretty cute.. and makes you laugh already..except Kushieda-chan has a flower on her head.. lol.. I didnt understand it either.. but it made it that much more fun..
The episodes talk about cuisine.. and that is basically ALL they are about but.. honestly they are very very informative.
There is alot of information in each one.. Surprisingly.. Taiga-chan’s response to every food she tastes was enough to leave me laughing even thinking about it
