Sometimes, you’ll find an anime that surprises you and delivers something you never expected. “Nagi no Asukara” is one such show and offers something truly unique.
It may look like another high school show, but as the episodes progress, its story and visuals become more compelling, it becomes one of the best shows in its genre.
The story’s main theme is friendship. However, it touches on other topics such as social acceptance, discrimination, and extremely romantic relationships.
Talking of romance, “Nagi no Asukara” is unlike other anime. It features characters with a variety of personalities and their relationships change over time.
The characters are great as individuals and serve a purpose in the overall plot.
The animation is amazing and the environment, which includes humans living below the sea and swimming with other marine animals, is truly incredible.
This anime sets an example for other futuristic anime and the Studio has exceeded all expectations.
You will find yourself watching 26 episodes of this anime and you will be hooked. “Nagi no Asukara” is a true gem and I highly recommend it.
Nagi no Asukara Season 2 Release date: When will it debut?
Season 1 of “Nagi no Asukara” premiered on October 3, 2013, and continued until April 3, 2014. There were 26 episodes.
Although the anime received mixed reviews from viewers, it has received a somewhat higher rating on most populous platforms.
Some people find anime as one of their favorite things. Others see it as a typical romance drama. The show was popular for quite some time and many fans expected a second season.
It is an original series without source material so it would not be a major issue for its renewal.
The creators were never held back by manga or light novels, which makes it a very attractive option. It never received Season 2, despite all the odds being in its favor.
Although the show is now a little older, we don’t think it will ever be canceled. As of right now, there are still chances of seeing more of this anime. However, we cannot confirm anything until the creators give us an official green light.
Let’s hope there’s some news about ‘Nagi no Asukara Season 2’ by the end of 2021. If not, fans may have to look elsewhere.
Nagi no Asukara English Dub: Nagi no Asu Kara’ Season 1 can be found on Crunchyroll, with original Japanese audio and English subtitles.
Nagi no Asukara Plot
Long ago, all of humanity lived under the sea. However, later, some decided to stay on the surface and never return to living underwater.
The power they had was taken away from them by their disregard for the power of Ena, the god-given power that allowed them to breathe underwater.
While they were still in contact with the surface inhabitants, those living below the sea began to distance themselves from those higher up.
“Nagi no Asu Kara” follows Hikari Sakishima (and Manaka Mukaido) as they leave the underwater world to go to school on the surface with their childhood friends, Chisaki Hiradaira, and Kaname Isaki.
Tsumugu Kira, a passionate fisherman, is also a friend. They live their lives below the surface and are confronted with the harsh realities of a world full of discrimination against those who are not separated by a surface water body.
Nagi no Asukara Characters
Chisaki, one of the female characters in the anime, is also a Shioshishio student.
Although she secretly loves Hikari, she never expresses her feelings to him.
She also knows that Manaka is her love. She is a pretty young girl.
Her curvy figure is evident and she has long, wavy, purple hair.
Because she believes that if her friends change, so will her relationship with her.
Manaka, Hikari Sakishima’s childhood friend, tries to be strong and not cry.
Hikari is in love with her, but she decides to keep her feelings for him secret because she knows that Chisaki is in a relationship with her.
She is a beautiful, fair-skinned girl with long auburn hair and deep blue eyes.
She is very feminine and has a great sense of style.
Although she is cheerful and energetic at first, she can be very indecisive.
Her character undergoes a lot of changes later and she is more confident about her abilities.
Manaka and Hikari have been close friends since childhood.
Hikari used to take care of Manaka as a child.
He falls in love with her after spending so much time together, but he doesn’t realize for long that she feels the exact same way for him.
He initially views the people living on the surface as inferiors, because they have lost the power given them by the Sea King.
Later, he discovers that everyone is the same and that the people living on the seafloor are the same as the ones below.
Kaname Isaki, another of his four Shioshishio friends, is very mature compared to his peers.
He is a big fan of Chisaki and has a deep affection for her.
He has dark brown hair and blue eyes like other members of the underwater world.
He is very relaxed and prefers to avoid conflict.
Tsumugu, a boy from the ocean surface, loves the sea and lives alongside his grandfather, a fisherman.
Manaka is a fisherman who meets Tsumugu while fishing. He is calm, stoic and is fascinated by the people who live below the sea.
With his dark brown hair and expressionless eyes, he is considered to be a handsome young male.
He prefers to listen and not talk very much. His tone is often very calm and composed, even when he speaks.
He wishes he could express his emotions more, but he fails every time.
