28. Arata Kangatari

Arata Kangatari 1

This is a rather enjoyable isekai anime to watch. most of the reasons have been stated, but i shall reiterate. To see how the characters react in this foreign world is great to see, especially since its done, rather realistically.

Next, as a result, watching each character go through different psychological states adds flare to this show and makes the story progression feasible.

Lastly, mentioned before, the interactions and background stories for characters is great and likely, most anyone would enjoy it.

The Vision of Escaflowne

One of the greatest asset that any isekai anime can have are it’s world building opportunities because almost anything can happen when they are transported to a different world.

Re: Creators

When you are a writer you can make your characters do as one pleases but the so the characters have their own will? Would they do things differently if it were up to them?

Would it despair them to learn that they never really had a choice in choosing anything in their lives at all? Would they try and change anything about themselves or other people or their world?

21. Saga of Tanya the Evil

Saga of Tanya the Evil

This is a one of the highly misunderstood series of the anime world because of the way it progresses. The protagonist here is the antagonist and it is pretty clear.

Nowhere in the anime has ever made the effort to justify any wrong actions that the protagonist takes but that’s what makes this one such an intriguing pick on the general isekai genre.

A man challenged a god to a battle of wits and is reborn as Tanya or “Devil of the Rhine”. Her innocent tiny little girl exterior with her girly voice makes it easy for her to fool anyone as they underestimate her which she can blast away with her gigantic magic blasts.

She only has one motive to make her mighty empire the most powerful nations to have ever existed. No matter what means she has to take for it including deceit, trickery, massacre and whatever else, she will do it mercilessly.

Because this anime is so different from most and so heavy in violence, it is one of the hidden gems out there.

20. So I’m a Spider, So What?

So I’m a Spider, So What?

Many high school students lost their lives on a single day.

Some were reincarnated in the form of fantastic fantasy creatures.

One girl was reincarnated as an ugly cave spider.

Despite being a tough student, she is not afraid of hardship and vows to never give up.

She also uses an RPG system to grow stronger every day.

This series follows a similar path to That Time I was Reincarnated as A Slime.

It transforms a character into a lowly creature, and then follows them to their success.

It also displays the activities of her classmates, which is quite interesting considering that the main character is very chatty and has a fast pace.

19. Log Horizon

Log Horizon

Mushoku Tensei

You know how when you’re in a very sad and gloomy mood, you just feel like if you could’ve done everything over from the start, you would’ve done things differently?

Well, this protagonist has been blessed with the opportunity and he is determined to do things differently this time.

Although new, this series has the potential to become one of the best anime because it has everything that it needs.

A good relatable premise, a missed opportunity for most people that the protagonist can cash on, a world that enables him to do so, characters dynamics that have the potential and a story building opportunity with the amount of freedom that it presents.

A definite worth watch. At least once. You can always rewatch if you want.

14. Gabriel Dropout

However, she became so used to the life on Earth that she skips school and keeps playing online games, thus into self-destruction.

It’s a school comedy that Gabriel turns into a lazy angel!

13. KonoSuba

KonoSuba

Probably the cutest and the funniest Isekai anime that there is.

Isekai anime usually deal with more of thriller or gore or horror or psychological genres that use physical means like magic that exist in the fictional world to demonstrate abstract concepts that are in this world.

This anime on the other hand doesn’t abandon the various needs that are to be fulfilled in thr real world like food or living expenses, but instead provide additional thrill by having the troubles that the protagonist needs to face double and pressure quadruple.

This makes the series not only have a clumsy and relatable protagonist but also keeps you grounded to an extent.

It is said, isn’t it? That if you fly too close to the Sun, your wings will melt?

12. Gargantia on the Verdurous Planet

Suisei no Gargantia

The set-up for this isekai anime is great.

Due to some great catastrophe, most humans have left Earth and are now engaged in a constant battle for survival against bizarre monstrosities called Hideauze, becoming a militaristic society called the Galactic Alliance of Humankind.

Our hero Ledo is a young man who was born into this endless war, knowing nothing but battle.

Due to an accident he is transported far away from this conflict, to a water covered planet; the Earth which humankind had left so long ago.

He comes across the (mostly) peaceful boat-dwelling indigenous people living in a fleet named Gargantia, and has to adapt to their drastically different culture in order to survive in this unfamiliar world.

11. Hataraku Maou Sama (The Devil is a Part-timer)

Hataraku Maou Sama Isekai Anime

This comedy superhero shounen is one of the bet examples an Isekai Anime and is a one that most definitely deserves a second season.

Character development, the Hero and the Devil in normal Japanese life, the discussion about what actually is good or evil, are angels always good and demons always evil, should humans know about the Demon lord and the Hero and many other questions are tackled in a fun way in this anime.

Will this Demon Lord find love? Will he have to go back to his world? Will he be able to stay? What are the mistakes he made? What are his achievements?

This anime has a real complex protagonist who cares about his subordinates, their well-being and abilities, understands how the system of this world works, tries to work with feelings and so much more that makes not just him but all characters goofy and very likeable.

If you watch this anime, you’ll definitely read the lift novel series to know what happened after it.

10. Aesthetica of a Rogue Hero

Aesthetica of a Rogue Hero

The point is what will people do when the Hero of the Shield is filled with hatred and seeks revenge from everyone who has wronged him?

He still is a hero, so you better watch out.

6. Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid

Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid

Kyoto Animation has been something of a lost soul, struggling to find its identity in a post-Haruhi and K-ON world. It is through flipping back the dial and returning to their roots that their newest title, Maid Dragon, is able to find its footing.

It feels like something that might have been animated once upon a time in 2005, and that is precisely what makes it so special in the modern climate of harem and superpower.

5. How Not To Summon A Demon Lord

How Not To Summon A Demon Lord

Character 1 & 2: Summon Demon Lord

4. Beelzebub

Beelzebub

You’re probably asking to yourself when picking up this Isekai anime “Will this make me laugh so hard I can’t breathe?”. The simple answer is YES and let me explain why.

The names of the central characters the story of Beelzebub revolves around is Tatsumi Oga and Baby called Beelzebub.

Tatsumi is a delinquent at the worst school in his area and Beelzebub is the son of a demon who was destined to take over the world.

From there, wacky stuff happens in EACH EPISODE that will have you on the floor crying for laughter. Honestly, I would say that the story is of less importance than how the characters were executed since it is a comedy.

3.  No Game No Life

No Game No Life

The concept of a ‘hikikomori’ or ‘NEET’ aren’t strange in Japanese culture.

Gaming experts that barely come out of their rooms or even closets a lot of times.

Story of two NEET siblings who are willing to take over an entire fictional world to defeat the ‘One True God’ or that world.

Obviously this gaming world is riddled with everything you could imagine, manipulative witches, polite assassins, robots and so much more.

2. Overlord

Overlord

This is probably one of the best underrated animes anyone has ever encountered.

A protagonist is transported into a video game where he is the Lord.

The interactions, character dynamics, rivalries and friendships, the underlying concepts, nuances and subtleties of this new world, the various personalities of characters…

There is so much to look for in the anime not including the graphics or fights because those are something that stand out on their own.

If you’re looking for Isekai Anime, this is the one that will not disappoint you.

1. Tensei shitara Slime Datta Ken

Tensei shitara Slime Datta Ken

Everyone is familiar with Pokémon right? So, remember this very peculiar Pokémon that Ash had called ‘Ditto’?

Remember how he can look at his opponent and imitate it’s looks and powers and personality as well?

Yeah. So, this protagonist is Ditto. In every single sense of the word. He can imitate looks, powers and is a pile of slime.

That should be enough to spark the question in your mind what will this guy do when he can become anyone or anything he wants?
